Well, here's the current issue - I receive ABC-HD on 86.3 on my TV HDTV Tuner - however, in multiple scans on GBPVR, that channels never shows up! And there are others also, haven't had hours to document them yet. I can't believe someone said they did the channel mapping in a couple of hours!

Also, once I get the channels set up for one tuner, is there any way to duplicate that to the other digital tuner?

It could be because you didn't ask your tuner to look for it. Check qam.ini to see what channels you asked to be scanned. Make sure 86 is in there. Or it could be that your signal isn't strong enough to spot it when 86 was scanned. Make sure you have a strong signal, eliminate spoitters, etc. Use the signal strength app if this is a Hauppauge tuner.

Quote:And there are others also,

See if they make a pattern. If you are having trouble with the higher frequency channels, it's likely your signal strength is low for the upper frequencies (typical for long cable runs, multiple splitters, etc.)

Quote:haven't had hours to document them yet. I can't believe dreadfury did the channel mapping in an hour!

I can do it now in about 10 minutes of scanning and 10 minutes of setup, but I've only got about 20 clear QAM channels and I know which one is which from using the QAM tuner on my TV.

Wiz has a BDA assistant that will do this. It's in the wiki and Whurlston posted a link to it recently. I haven't tried it, but I plan to soon.

Yeah, what Dennit said -> it could very easily be a signal level issue. I have an HVR-1600 that has a terrible time on clear qam unless a really big amplifier is used and even then it's not quite all fixed. I have two cable boxes, a cable modem, and can even split a cable box feed to a new tv with a qam tuner in it and they all work just fine, but that darn HVR-1600 wont!

Being able to import/export digital channel mappings and maybe finding some place to host them so you could just pop in a postal code to download a mapping would be a neat addition to GBPVR.

Here is the BDA Channel mapping tool by Wiz. I plan to use it soon on my new DVB-S setup.

I also agree that it may be a signal issue. The only other reason for not finding it would be scanning of the wrong frequencies but the QAM.ini manager pretty much solves that.

Is there any way to export the mappings once they are done in case I need to restore them?

This is a very disturbing and confusing statement in Hauppauge's FAQ for the HVR2250

"Can I get HD with the WinTV-HVR-2250 through my Cable or Satellite box?
No. The WinTV-HVR-2250 has an ATSC over-the-air digital TV tuner built-in and supports all ATSC formats, up to the high definition 1080i format . The WinTV-HVR-2250 will support ATSC broadcasts that are currently being transmitted over-the-air. It will not be able to decode HD broadcasts that come through your cable or satellite box. The WinTV-HVR-2250 also will support clear QAM cable TV channels through your direct cable TV line if available from your cable TV provider."

Does this mean I cannot tune clear QAM HD channels on my direct cable feed?

Its only saying it cant get high def signals from a cable or satellite box (these will be standard def via the svideo/composite or analog tuner inputs of the card). To get highdef signals, like your clear qam, it records directly from the cable or antenna using its onboard tuner (not the tuner in some external set top box).
