So does that mean it would have to be called "Spot GB-PVR" or something equally? Does this extend to the name on the GB-PVR main menu - is it against the terms to have it display "Spotify" here...?

I seem to remember NetFlix had something similar in their terms - what was the outcome of that?
They basically don't want anyone to think that a third party implementation is confused as an "official" Spotify application. Netflix allows us to use terms like "... from Netflix", but not "... powered by Netflix", etc. but then it's not actually part of the app name. Personally I would call it "Music from Spotify". I doubt they would have an issue and if they do, you could change it.

McBainUK Wrote:The name shown on the plugin screen can be set in the skin but the text on the button in the main menu is set in code. If this is "Spotify" will I be breaking the API terms - this is what I don't know.
You could also allow the plugin display name to be changed (I did it with the Netflix plugin) and people can make it appear as "Spotify" on the menu if they wish. I can send you the code to do it when I get home later tonight.

Edit: You could also call it "Music Spot". Wink

I've read that Spotify is a P2P application and so will use quite a bit of network traffic downloading and sharing tracks. Can a Spotify guru tell me if it does this only when the player is visible on screen, all the time, only when playing, or only when the Spotify tray icon is shown?

Isn't it Moovida (elisa) OR GB-pvr? Do you combine these somehow? In that case why?
It looks to me as GB-pvr does more than Moovida (like TV)...

I had hoped a Spotiy guru had answered this. But as I understand it, Spotify shares the cache with other users as it is running (using torrent technique). This creates network traffic. It takes approximatly 10% of the free disc space for it's cache on installation. So it is usually a good idea to lower this to something like 10 Gb. And to close the application in the system tray and not just the GUI when you are done.

Thanks

I had to test it... Smile

I liked the idea that it use the running spotify in the background. That means that I can use it even if I'm no paying user.

But a big (huge) drawback is that I can't use my playlists!
The UI where a bit clumsy as well in the way search and browsing were handled.
But it had a nice look and the info is shown the mce way (no surprise there).
Everytime I started a new song, Spotify took focus, even if MCE where fullscreen.
Songler sends commands to Spotify and start songs that way, but it can't receive info from spotify (like if I change song there).

But as an idea for a spotify plugin this is a good one. Search and nice presentation is there. But the lack of playlists is the biggest let-down...

Does it restore focus back to MCE or do you have to do that yourself?

Regarding Playlists, can they be exported or saved to file somehow?

I had to change focus manually. But I think thats a bug as they write that MCE should remain in focus when fullscreen mode is used (but not in windowed mode).

If you can get the song and album info from Spotify, it should be possible to get the playlists as well... At least as a spotify URL. You can copy a playlist url and send it to any other Spotify user and he can play that list.
So if it is hard to extract that info from Spotify, you can certainly save the lists in some other way. This is a example: spotify:user:tore:playlist:478Mh38dROjq7ghVWbRaFE

BTW have you lost your Spotify account or is the request for a friend?
