I've had a chance to do some testing on a fresh win7 install with the latest npvr and got the wintv version of arcsoft hd decoder to work ( had to register llm.dll as well as the filter ).

Unfortunately it exhibits the fluctuating volume problem.

Here's a sample recorded using npvr 1.5.33 it should be 5.1

Actually yes one of the options I have on the PCH is to boost the center channel by 6db and it did make a difference on this file, although "Paul Young"'s voice is still not as clear as I'd like. I think it will be better to get a new sample with a bit more content.

That clip plays fine for me with the ArcSoft HD decoder.

I'm pretty sure that's only stereo but it plays fine on the PCH.

I'll try to get a new sample. Anyone know how I could cut a clip from a larger recording ?
I have a recording on disk that exhibits the problem quite well but haven't got anything that'll edit it.

Ok that sample is 5:1 but it sounds ok on the PCH so I'm not sure the I have to boost the centre after all.
