So, I can record one each, just not watch?
As far as I'm aware, this device can do either digital or analog but not both at the same time. If you're seeing both files growing, then it sounds to me like you might have recorded two digital channels on the same frequency, so its using multi-record to record them.

If you try to schedule a recording on a channel that is only available on the digital tuner, and then try to schedule a recording that is only on the analog tuner, then it should fail to schedule the analog recording.

I have two 1950's plugged in.

When I record an analog show, I can watch another analog channel with no error.

When I record an analog show, I can't watch another digital channel ("Device failed to start")

When I record an analog show, I can record the other digital channel (even though I got an error when I tried to watch it). When I do, I show the following tuners recording:

Hauppauge HVR USB2 Video Capture:1
Hauppauge HVR USB BDA Tuner/Demod:2

After testing/executing the bullets above, I restarted the service and tried again from the digital perspective:

When I record a digital show, I can watch another digital channel with no errors.

When I record a digital show, I can't watch another analog channel ("device failed to start").

When I record a digital show, I can record the other analog channel (same channel that I couldn't watch).

Following status is reflected (recording):

Hauppauge HVR USB2 BDA Tuner/Demod:1
Hauppauge HVR USB2 Video Capture:2

You might need to remove one for some tests to make sure you're at least getting the correct behavior on one device before adding the second. ie, only allowing either analog or digital to be used at one time, not both. After we're happy that is working correctly, we can focus on adding the second device.

I can do that, I suppose, but I thought it was apparent that the initial, single 1950 is working properly. It's when I try to watch (watch, not record) from the second device that causes issues...

Plus, when I record an analog and a digital, the status is showing that each 1950 is being used per my earlier post.

Is it possible that the devicerules.xml is being followed for recordings, but not for watching channels?

Yes, that is what I'm trying to determine.

Does this mean you want me to unplug one of the tuners?

Yeah, its probably worth checking the various scenarios with one tuner first, before adding the second tuner.

Here goes. Unplugged the second tuner, restarted services (but the device stayed in the device configuration).

Record an analog show, try to watch another analog show, get "unable to locate capture filter: Hauppauge HVR USB2 Video Capt".

Record an analog show, try to record another analog show, get "no tuner available for this recording".

Record an analog show, try to watch another digital show, get "device failed to start".

Record an analog show, try to record another digital show, get "no tuner available for this recording".

Record a digital show, try to watch another digital show, it sorta crashes, get an unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. (more words, but I think you get the picture, but also adds at the end "The given key was not present in the dictionary". I hit continue and I'm brought back to the tv guide.

Record a digital show, try to record another digital show, it records (this surprised me until I remember reading somewhere that NPVR will do this now). Status shows two digital recordings under BDA Tuner/Demod:1. Try to record a third digital channel, then I get the "no tuner available for this recording" message.

Record a digital show, try to watch an analog show, get "Device failed to start".

Record a digital show, try to record an analog show, get "no tuner available for this recording".

Edit: Also attached logs in case that helps.

That still trying to look at your second HVR-1950, so unfortunately testing the logic for this device rules stuff (ie, dont use digital tuner while the analog is in use, and the opposite scenariod). It does remind me of the bugs in the logic that stops it using devices that arent connected to the machine. You'd probably have to test it on an empty database (ie, no sign of the second tuner), to get a valid test.

Been wanting to avoid that, but I'll do it.

What's the best way to delete #2 from the device page? Is there a file I can save and relocate to get my current setup back?
