I'm definitely not mucking about, I'm just reporting back that all variations have resulted in the same result. I appriciate that johnsonx42 has taken the time to help me try solve this problem. I also see that 300+ viewers have been reading this thread so maybe others have had the same problem and simply gave up.
Thanks,

@steeb - malc2 isn't doing anything wrong or fouling up any clear instructions, the installer extraction just doesn't work on his system. it hangs forever no matter which way we go.

@malc2 - the 400+ views on this thread is just us going back and forth, along with a few other regular readers. it's not 400 individual people looking at it. I'm afraid for whatever reason your problem is unique to you. sorry Wink

malc2, I disagree that the instructions are clear since it is hard to understand UAC and the whole process, and after all you started this thread explaining that you didn't know how to edit a batch file. johnsonx42's batch file seems simpler and it should work.

I am thinking your wintv download is corrupt, and that you could need to download it again. You could trying running it from "My Computer" and cancel out.

Correct. Mr Johnson! So we have an XP system, I believe, I'm in the mood to solve it....

UAC isn't an issue here since it's an XP system, but I still thought it might be best to make another try with the files elsewhere than Program Files. It doesn't seem to have worked though. I did also request that malc2 download a new copy of the WinTV7 installer. I believe though as I type this malc2 is posting a further follow-up, so we shall see what may have worked.

Maybe partial success. I followed the above instructions from johnsonx42 in post 26and when I ran the bat file this time it added content to Temp 2 folder which had always been empty. Here are three print screen of the results::confused:

This is also the 2nd download of Wintv7. I downloaded to my other computer and networked it to this one.

So you find then that the Part 2 extraction never finishes either?

Since it populated the temp2 folder, you could try deleting the part 2 extraction line as well, which is the line that says ""C:\SoftPVR\wintv7setup.exe /x C:\SoftPVR\temp2", then run the batch file one more time. it should then proceed with copying and registering the files.

I think you may have gotten it. My device is not yet showing up in the NPVR settings, but am I correct in assuming that the same exercise now has to be performed in the SoftPVR folder that is located in my program files under NPVR? Or should the device be showing now?
Here's what happened after deleting the line & running the batch file:
