Well I'm back to the original Win7 Pro 64 bit system. I'll stay here for now after not having any success installing the app into a 32 bit win7 or a Win XP system. I must be cursed. .

I've been trying to get this to run on three different computers which led me to believe I may have a corrupted installation download ???

Tried running "nrecord.exe RUN" and had something different happen. First I already had all the various NPVR files set to be allowed through my Windows fire wall.

So I was surprized when trying to run the nrecord.exe RUN that the FireWall popped up and challenged me. I then set to allow the app. to be passed. I went to task manager and the recording service WAS WORKING. Things looked better .. BUT after I had the EPG updated and tried to watch a channel, I got the now familiar error that the device couldn't be found. Right after that I checked my processes and found the NPVR was again STOPPED. And again I could not restart it.

So I did the nrecord.exe RUN again and that ran okay with no errors. But checking the NPVR Recording service I find it is STILL STOPPED. And trying to start it again results in the error that says "The system cannot find the path specified."

Yes, the program is in the proper folders etc. C:\Program Files (x86) .. I'm stumped. I'm off to download the install program again. I have NO CLUE why this won't work in a brand new Windows 7 32 bit install or in an existing Windows XP system.

Sigh ...

Yeah, that sounds like you've got something like firewall blocking it when you run as a service. Like it's popping up a firewall prompt, but because it's a background session you cant see it or answer it.

Did it stay running with "nrecord.exe RUN"? This is effectively running the recording service in a command window instead of as a service. While it's running in that command prompt, you should be fully working. If you kill it in that command prompt, you'll be back to no recording service though.

I'v seen a couple of cases where Windows just won't play by the rules, in such cases I had to open the ports manually in the firewall to get npvr working.

I ran some more tests .. yes it stays running and keeps running as long as I don't try to watch a channel. If I attempt to watch a channel, I get the error that the device cannot be found and then the service is stopped and will not restart

I've been doing that as a matter of my normal procedures when working with these types of programs. (I was a beta test for Beyond TV for 10 years) .. I may have missed one or two though. I'll look again and make sure I have manually set all the pertinent NPVR files in the fire wall. I have a network management program that also "locks" my wireless and regular setup for additional security. I highly doubt that has something to with any of that stuff .. because I'm having the same problems with a fresh Win 7 install with NO ... other programs installed .. only NPVR .. and still am having problems. But I will turn off "everything" I can, recheck the firewall and give it another go.

Reproduce this, then post the nrecord.log and NDigitalHost.exe and I'll take a look.

It's sounds like it might be treating your Prime as a digital HDHR, do you you have all the Silicon Dust software installed and the correct DCR device selected?

Almost there ..

I uninstalled NPVR. FWIW I found the NPVR recording service still listed and of course was stopped. Rebooted the computer .. and the recording service came back again. Went through the registry manually and removed many left over references to NPVR. Reboot again. And now the NPVR recording service is gone from my system. Next I downloaded the NPVR install program (I've been using the same install file so I thought I may as well try a new download) ...

I ran the setup and all looked okay. But before I ran NPVR for the first time I went into my Windows firewall (expecting to see NPVR files already tagged as okay) and there were NO references to NPVR. So I manually browsed to the NPVR folder and included the NPVR pertinent apps in the Windows Firewall white list.

I started NPVR for the first time and the NPVR service was running! Everything looked normal (as best as I could tell) To test, I stopped and started NPVR watching the services and no problem. I rebooted the computer and the NPVR recording services were still good.

I've set up a few channels with an XML EPG source and the on-screen EPG populated itself and all looks good.

Now I have something to work with.

The recording service is working. But I have a new problem. I have no video or audio. Trying to record a short show, finishes but it fails and says there was no data which might be from a weak or missing signal ??

Before I go on any further can anyone tell me if they have had their system work with Cox Cable? I am a subscriber to the digital tier and I CAN view all the digital channels with the HDHR Prime QuickTV application. So I doubt it's a DRM problem .. The resultant .ts files are zero length.
What is everyone using for the various video and audio rendering?

you need firewall exceptions for nrecord.exe, ndigitalhost.exe, and nrecord.exe. if you're missing one, then you'll get the no data issue.

You've got "nrecord.exe" listed twice. I've already got nrecord.exe listed. Just added ndigitalhost.exe. Still no joy. Was there another one?
