This is an interesting comment, and made me wonder.

Does a 2.5.5 client, with the 2.5.9 server work fine? How about the opposite, 2.5.9 client with 2.5.5 server? These may help narrow down if its server or client problem.

I noted above I had forgotten to upgrade a client that was crashing. So:

2.5.9 server + a 2.5.5 OR 2.5.9 client = crashing.

It won't be hard to test the opposite.

I've got a couple of clients running 2.5.9 now and they are very stable with a 2.5.5 server. It's only been today, and I'll continue to test it for several more days. It certainly seems to me so far that 2.5.9 when acting as a server is the issue.

This started happening to me only in the mornings and once or twice. Then no trouble for the rest of the day.
But yesterday every 15 min all day all night. My work around "Back" to TVListings>"Play" gives me another 15min.
Only the client freezes, server on the same channel runs fine.

Thanks

I have seen this issue with 2.5.9 and some earlier releases. I captured the attached logs with the modified nshared.dll and also included the npvr log from the client. The freeze occurred at 16:54 on 10/31, and I "escaped" from the live TV session at 16:59. After the freeze on the client, the live TV file (4 of 4) continued to grow. I can't be sure, but the freeze seemed to occur at about the same time as the roll over to the 4th file. i.e. when I first looked after noticing the freeze, the size of the 4th file was 0 bytes, and then continued to grow. The server has plenty of free disk space in the live TV location.

This issue is gone for me now.
I did:
-delete some orphaned live TV buffer files on the server.
-changed the live TV buffer folder on the client.

niether of these had an immediate effect but the client is back to full function now.

Thanks to both of you for adding some logs. I've been too busy to get a single freeze sub was looking for.

@OTAjunkie - it might return. I've cleaned out the temp files too (I have a nightly job that does it - sometimes they don't get deleted.) I have gone hours without a freeze and then, wham, every 15 minutes (or less).

@gabest I've seen exactly what you've seen with the behavior of the temp files. I've had this with earlier versions too, but limited to MAYBE a freeze or two every couple of weeks. If it is something going back that far as the same root cause, something about 2.5.9 really exacerbates it.

I don't watch a lot of live TV, so I've not been tracking the problem through all the versions, but I did notice it again while testing out 2.5.9. Saw your post and had time to do a clean, single run log capture. I can also repeat it fairly regularly on my systems. I should probably add that my client machine is an older 3.0 gHz P4, but it runs HD recordings without a hitch in VLC and NextPVR.

Can you post the nrecord.log from the server?
