I wonder if part of the plan of shutting down Z2L includes somehow scraper proofing their website. I don't think it would be impossible. I have seen websites using java where none of the text or photos could be copied or interacted with.

I don't think the loss of Zap2it will harm the continuation of GBPVR at all. There's too many other things in the works for this to stop the PVR community.

Agreed. There are already several solutions available in the GB-PVR community alone (granted only one for Canada so far). Besides, the Zap2It issue only affects North American users.

Which one works for Canada? September is looming fast and I need to set my plans. I almost cried when I heard Zap2It was shutting down.

Thanks,

The MceEpg2XmlTv that I wrote works for any country that gets EPG data from MS. It does require MCE though. I currently works on Vista and I am loading MCE 05 on a machine at this very moment so that I can back port it.

Have you been able to overcome the problem that occurs when there is no tuner in an MCE machine?

I going like the last of the cavemen (well not for that new TV Series this FALL called Cavemen on ABC) LOL When my cable drops analog CATV all together for 100% digital on all low and high band channels. There isn't much I can do, just add more Digital CATV DVR boxes as they won't offer Digital signal otherwise and I know those in Florida are in the same boat! I'll still have the PC for media access. So if Zap2it goes in Sept, and most cable TV like COX and Comcast dropping the analog line (btw COX and Comcast are almost one) by sometime this year oh well that ends well I say.. man overboard!

What about the open digital QAM channels. Aren't they required to carry the locals using QAM?

Do you have direct evidence that the cable companies are dropping analog in favor of digital? From what I've seen the contrary is true. Since the 2009 cutoff is only for terresterial broadcasts(this excludes cable) there's no compulsion for the cable companies to go digital. The cable companies almost hide the fact that they're broadcasting the local channels in clear QAM. I think it would be great if the cable companies broadcast their channels as digital but I'm not holding my breath. Look how they're doing everything in their power to kill cable card.

It's beneficial to a cable companies bottom line to carry stations in digital instead of analog. They can broadcast several digital stations in the place of one analog.
