I ran about 15 tests over night.
This successfullly renamed every single file, with no trouble. Even the ones with unusual characters in the names. Big Grin
Kudos for a great add-on!

KingArgyle,

I have been testing the 12-21 release of RenameRecording. Thanks for the great work. This addresses many issues we have all had in doing renaming correctly. THANKS!!!

Even though I am sure you did not plan for the program to be used in this way, I have used it to rename all files in a directory through a "search" routine for any .mpg file. When used in this way, when it encounters a file has already been renamed I get the following error message in the log:

Unhandled Exception: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Length cannot be less than zero.
Parameter name: Length
at System.String.Substring(Int32 startIndex, Int32 lenght)
at RenameRecording.RenameRecordingClass..ctor(Strng sFileName, Boolean titleSw)

Since I retyped the error message it may not be exactly correct. This is not a huge problem for me, but with some of the talented and creative people who use GBPVR in unbelievable ways, I am sure they will appreciate an error trap.

Thanks again for a great renaming utility.

I've been trying to accomplish this - without luck Sad (I'm not a programmer). Are you using a batch file for this? Can you share it?

Thanks

Roy -

I have a few batch files that I have used to rename all recordings in a directory and all subdirectories. They are not very elegant since I "wrote" them for a quick job recently. They are based on others files that have been shared on the site so I take no credit for the approach. But I know they can be hard to find so I here they are. This approach will rename only the files which are still active in the GBPVR database.

Batch File 1 - (RenameRecordingsBatch1 - EDIT.bat) This file can be placed anywhere. Edit this file to include the directory that you are interested in renaming the files within. And then just run this file which will call batch file #2.

Batch File #2 - (RenameRecordingsSearch.bat) This file MUST be placed in the GBPVR directory with KingArgyle's RenameRecording.exe file. This is the real search and rename routine which recursively calls KingArgyle's code.

NOTE: You will probably get an error message (JIT Debugger) when it encounters a file which has already been renamed. Just continue and it will go to the next file.

As always, this has worked for me, but I take no responsibility for any errors, lost files, etc.

Hope this helps.

DeadRun,

Understood and thanks, I'll give it a try tonight.

DeadRun, have you been able to get the renamed name after KingArgyles latest renamerecording.exe?

I want to be able to have comskip, comclean, and renamerecording run and then move/copy the file to another directory. I know there has been discussion about the capturing the renamed name but I am at a loss. Any idea?

Happy New Year
