Thanks for all the info. I would go with the Zalman, but it does not fit the AM2 socket. I think I will try the Thermaltake fan.

I also think I will get one of the cables Torque suggested and give that a go. It is only $6 so I can't really go wrong.

@role1jt- I NEVER want to get on the wifes bad side. Thanks for all your help......Hey after all, your post caused me to start thinking and get myself into this mess!Big Grin

Great... so now your wife hates me instead! LoL Its all good! Smile

Did you get the case yet? Is there anything noticeably different/banged up/broke? I am considering going with their B-Stock cases for a couple builds that I have on the horizon and was just curious.

Have we mentioned in the past that we all like pictures? Big Grin

What color did you use to spray paint? I tried Krylon Dull Aluminum and it kinda matches. It was my first try spray painting and it didn't come out too well. I also bought some primer and it didn't seem to do much. Since it seems to be working for you, I might not bother with the primer next time.

I actually used "Model Spray Paint" from the plastic model section, I had silver left over from an RC body that I painted. It looks good, if your with with a couple feet they don't match exactly but they are close enough.

Another thing, try to paint a beige drive cover, black might take a lot paint to cover, which would not look good.

My last tip: Use MANY light coats of paint. There is probably 12-15 light coats on that drive cover. I probably had 8-10 coats on it before all the beige was gone, and I couldn't read the letters. The first few coats should almost look like nothing is going on. Take your time and use a lot of light coats, and it should turn out ok.

I didn't use an adhesion promoter, but the paint I used was meant for plastic, I also washed it with soap and hot water and let it dry before I painted it. You very well may need an adhesion promoter if your not using paint meant for plastic.

Good Luck!

As and update, I got all my stuff and have put the basics together. In fact, I am using it to post this! I will post a complete story soon with pix. As a not on the dvd drive. I did get one that is silver. It is a NEC from Newegg. It works and looks great, but it is very loud. This is a bad thing since the purpose of the drive is so I can watch DVDs. I still have not decided what to do about it yet. Another update. The "B" case looks great to me. The defect is there are some very fine scratches on the front where the packing material rubbed against it. The good thing is the only visible scratch is on removable plastic for the drive bays. I just removed the worst one when I installed the DVD drive and all is well. I will post pictures, but the "B" case savings was worth the small scratches.

BTW, how do you add pictures to your post? I tried in the past but never got it to work.

I don't know if this works for DVD-drives aswell, I remember using drivespeed from Nero to limit the speed of the cd-drive to e.g 4x, it would be very quiet then. It ran very regular then instead of starting/stopping all the time.

I heard that silver optical drives do well with this case but sadly, the NEC 3540 isn't being sold anymore (at least, not that I know of) and the current ones on Newegg are a Sony/NEC joint product and some are getting some bad reviews and the ASUS ones have labels which I'm not fond of. I may just buy one for the faceplate and swap it with my current black one since my impatience shows on my spray paint job. There are fingerprints on it...

My current optical drive is a NEC 3540 which uses Drivespeed to run it at 2x and there are no problems playing DVD's; in fact, I think it can be set at 1x and still run properly.

Glad that everything is building up well. I love the NSK2400 case. Smile

As for the drive, I am with everyone else in suggesting Nero's Drive Speed. Never used it on a 5.25 drive, used it for laptops for use in presentations to quiet them down. I think you will be surprised with the results and you will begin to love the drive.

It will slow the drive down on large data transfers, but for watching a DVD you should never notice it at all.

Glad to here that we get to see pics. Big Grin
