I agree with IMAGN about XP. I went with Vista also. I would recommend using EVR with Vista, that might solve some problems. I think that's what WMP uses outside of GBPVR. In XP, I believe it uses VMR7 outside of GBPVR.

I'd also agree that giving Vista and EVR a try is worth it.

I read here about a lot of troubles you guys have.
I owned HD3200 too and i havent any problems at all.
The trick is to use correct drivers, decoders and setting.

If you using FFdshow, you need fast CPU (~3GHz) to be able to handle FullHD.

ATI IGP HD3200 can hadle FullHD without any problembs, but you need to use DXVA and do not forgot to enable vsync (aero in vista).

For me, HD3200 work best using old catalyst 8.5.

It is not true you can get any beter picture quality using Vista+EVR, XP+VMR9 working preaty well (do not combine XP+EVR/ VISTA+VMR9).

So, you can use PowerDVD software, but i personaly do not like very much. My choose is free MPC-HC decoder.

I created small filters (codecs) package, wich can help to you to solve your playback problem. Main purpose is to make it as simply as possible and enable DXVA to as much possible videos/streams.

Under GB-PVR there are only one limitation to make DXVA working - DXVA is not possible, when using subtitles (and you need DXVA compatible GPU).

If somebody is interested, please look here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=40821

PS: sorry for my english...

Problem is that MPC H264 decoder does not work with GBPVR. It is true that I got better results using vista+ EVR than I did XP+VMR9. I have read countless posts telling me to disable aero in vista, yours is the first I've seen telling me to enable it... I've previously tried both and it seems to make no difference at all. Thanks for your post though as I'm sure it'll help someone.

What do you mean "MPC H264 decoder does not work with GBPVR"? Work here without any problem - FullHD in GB-PVR screenshot:

You need Aero enabled to make vsync working. Without aero you will face tearing on vista...

I mean for H264 content, the MPC H264 codec doens't work with live TV or recording playback in GBPVR as stated by Sub in many a thread. Even if you allow it in config xml and select it in the config prog, it wont use it. If you look in the graph it will load the codec but then use one of the ones GBPVR does work with. There are many threads where Sub talks about trying to get it to work and that it currently is not supported.
I've never head tearing in Vista with aero disabled.

Edit: I see you're talking about mkv playback which is a totally different thing using the Haali splitter. It wont work for live TV or recorded program playback.

Hm, i see now, you mean Live h.264 TV.
Media Portal have same problem, but it is not MPC-HC filter problem, problem is on TS reader side...

I've managed to prove that the odd stutter I get with HD content and the Cyberlink H264 codec is not CPU related. I'm getting a constant 4-7% CPU usage when it's playing fine and when it stutters. This is watching the football tonight on ITV HD and recording it too to play about with in graphedit later.

After playing about with the ITV HD recording in MPC and getting it to load different codecs I have managed to recreate my sporadic Cyberlink7 stutters, so I guess it's good I know that's nothing to do with GBPVR or its TS reader. I have also proved that for mpeg2 and H264 I am getting hardware accelleration cause my CPU is only 3-7% utilised. Using CoreAVC the sports pans still look awful (but non panning looks great, so anything other than sport really) and the CPU is only at 50%, so my awful pans aren't lack of CPU power. I have CoreAVC configured to do hardware deinterlacing (given my spare CPU power I might try turning that off for the laugh). Should CoreAVC be capable of a perfecly smooth pan during sport or am I wasting my time trying? Are there any other things I should configure with it? I also tried the MPC and the ffdshow H264 filters and the pans look similarly poor to CoreAVC. Only Cyberlink does real silky smooth pans in sport. I was definately using the DXVA version of the MPC H264 decoder... Cyberlink8 seemed a bit better than 7.

Any advice on configuring these filters for smooth pans would be greatfully received!

Stuffering playback can be caused by video FPS too.
Mostly if your refresh rate are set to 60Hz, and you will play video with 25FPS, you will have stuffering playback. You need to setup output to 50Hz to have perfect sync for 25FPS videos. But if your video are in 23.9xxFPS, 24FPS, etc, you need to use reclock. Reclock resample audio and slightly increase framerate to match you system refreshrate. By other words, reclock change 24fps to 25fps in real time.
