Hmm, mine doesn't say that for any file types (DVD, mpeg2 files, H264) despite the filter claims they are all DXVA. I tried downloading the newest version of MPC-HC and it made no difference so who knows what the deal is! To be honest with DVD I dont really care as it looks great anyway... just curious now.

I can select VA by disabling Aero/Transparency but when actually testing it, it drops back to Motion adaptive. If the 4200 can do VA, that will be one improvement. Power/heat is definitely another improvement.

I have a 4200 and have found that the ATI drivers can do various forms of deinterlacing (using DXVA checker) but my question is how do you choose which mode you want with GBPVR?

The best thing about my 780g is the great control over fan speeds, using the 4-pin PWM fan control for all the fans inside. Quietest PC I have ever used. Can anyone confirm if the 785g is as good? I ask because I purchased another make of motherboard with PWM fan control (Asrock) assuming it would be the same, but it is terrible because the fans slowest speed is much faster than the gigabyte, in other words much louder. I had to disable the PWM function and use software instead (Speedfan) - which is a shame having purchased Arctic Cooling PWM fans especially...

Mine is the asus M4A785d-M PRO - with the stock cpu fan and a cheap but quiet thermatake PSU.
Its very quiet. This is a bit subjective though. I like to add many chassis fans but run them slowly (fixed speed) to keep them quiet.
Note that this PSU is quieter than a very expensive 'quiet' brand name psu I had previously.

In the Catalyst Control panel, I always just turn off "Use Application Settings" and set it to use the one I want.

I have the Biostar on board HD3300 and am having similar bad playback of 1080i...im gathering from this thread (the earlier posts), thats its advisable to upgrade my graphics card to experience better playback? Ive tried numerous codecs and ccc settings but still get poor playback with football games and fast pans in general on TV shows.
Will something like 4350 or 4550 suffice? Thanks

My recommendation would be the 4670 if you are going with a discrete card. It's the only one that does everything properly. All other cards have one bug or another in the drivers that affects them. Or you could get one of the new 5xxx series. Cheaper models should be out by the end of the month/year.

What do you mean by bugs?

I have ATI HD4550 (fanless) in my HTPC and i do not have any problems at all (on WinXP)

I don't think the XP drivers have the issue, only the Win 7 and Vista drivers. But basically:

4670 and higher support up to vector adaptive deinterlacing @ 1080i
4650 and lower only support up to motion adaptive @ 1080i

The Gigabyte 4550s seem to be an exception to this and they support VA. Other 4550s will support VA if Aero is disabled.

...oh, Vista and Win7... Another reason to not use such OS for HTPC Smile
