I use ODD too, and that works fine.
And the fact that the config works for one instance indicates for me that the card communication is fine. I bet there is a syntax error introduced when several user-tags was edited in.

One step forwared and two back...
Now I can´t get it to work at all. I tryed different settings for several instances and then nothing worked. I started all over again and copied Barsks newcs.xml file but it wont work. It is like the card doesn´t work anymore but it does in my normal tv decoder. When I used Barsks xml file for the first time and started newcs, everything went fast, I couldn´t read the beginning of the newcs screen becouse of all the communication printouts. But it worked so I didn´t pay much attention to what was printed in the beginning.

Back to basic, I have started newcs and get the result below. It seems like newcs is communicating with the card, but only a few words. The hex-numbers after "Phoenix_read:" is often "03 ff" but sometimes longer and sometimes shorter. I have tried different combinations with odd even and different stop bits but no difference.

Any suggestions? Can I force it to Viaaccess? It is trying Irdeto. In the middle it says "User 2:" Why? I only have one user. "carddetect" in the xml file is set to "no" should it be that way?
Trying to find something to test...

It clearly does not communicate with the card. If you have an USB connector for your phoenix reader, it is important to know that it will create a virtual serial port for it. If you move the USB connector to another port, it will create another serial port. Check in your device manager under ports what serial port number you actually have. COM5 may be wrong...?

And Carddetect should be ON. And it says "Failed to lookup 127.0.0.1" which leads me to suspect there is something wrong with your hosta file. Are you running Vista?

Normally carddetect should be ON, all other examples I have seen of carddetect has had carddetect on...However in my setup newcs goes in to an endless loop of lock/release. Setting it to off in my setup solved that. Andcar should try with ON however.
I get the same lookup warning in win7 too. Is of no concern.

EDIT: For the record. Today my HTPC was restarted be Windows Update, and when I logged in newcs refused to contact my card. I restarted like 5 times before it got working again. Something strange is going on.

I gave up the cardreader since there seemed to be a problem with that. I bought a new one, a Phoenix smartcardreader from AD-teknik this time.
I started over again from beginning, using the files from Barsk in this thread. I have also turned off the firewall. I start NewCS and then NPVR and turn to a crypted channel. I get this output from newcs:

Can you post your NewCS.xml config file, I'll take a look.

The log entry of failure is this:
[ 21:52:03 ] [ Loader ] Card 0500 on port COM6 failed

Did you install the drivers for the AD-teknik reader?
Did you use the right COM port?
Have you tried the tool from ad-teknik that sets the reader into phoenix or smartmouse mode. I am not sure you need this tool otherwise, but it is kind of useful for checking that communication work.

I'm not so sure that is is not related to EVEN/ODD and stopbits/databits setting.

I have not downloaded a driver but I downloaded the tool to set mode and frequency. That worked just fine.

I have tried 1 and 2 databits in windos for COM6 and different parity, but no difference as I can see.

I have tried Carddetect=Yes, but then I get into a loop just as Barsk did
