crash at 1:30am almost every night

I'm not really sure exactly what I can do on these crashes in MSNP.ax. I guess I can try some other random stuff in hopes of finding a work around. I can of course look at other crashes - unfortunately NPVRTSMon.ax is a moving target right now though, and has changed several times in the last few days, so looking at dump files might be difficult.

it almost seems like some of my problems are similar to the symptoms of an XP machine without the BDA Hotfix, but of course I'm running Windows 7.

hmmm... just noticed this box is a bit behind on Windows Updates. I didn't want automatic updates rebooting the machine or popping up over video, so I turned them off awhile back. I think I'll cancel tonight's recordings and go on a windows and driver update binge.

do you know anything about this patch?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981129 does NPVR use any of the components affected by that?

mpg2splt.ax is used by NPVR. I'm not sure if the problem would affect it or not though

I'll check and see if that file is updated after I complete all my windows updates... if not I'll put that update in.
edit: looks like the big windows update I just did put a new mpg2splt.ax in, now dated 12/22/2010. I can't tell for sure what version I had before, but I think it was 5/9/2010, so still newer than what was in that kb article/update. either way, interesting that I am seeing updates to that file.

I had the 1:30am NPVRTSMon crash last night. Well, technically it happened at 1:33am.
There is a crash.mdmp, but it's no use since we're still out of sync on NPVRTSMon.ax. Has that file stabilized at all so you can give me a current version, or are we looking at the next release before it settles down?

Hopefully a couple of weeks.

ok, no problem. it seems like the changes you made previously have helped, because I'm definitely not crashing at 1:30am nearly as often. this was the first in nearly two weeks. no recurrance of the 'graph-won't-stop' crash either since I did windows and driver updates, but it's only been 5 days or so and I'd sometimes go weeks or more without that crash.
