oops... NextPVR.exe is the 3rd. That won't stop a recording from working, but could prevent scanning for channels.

You might try disabling your firewall altogether just to verify it's not a firewall issue. Also I recall some users reporting that they had a 3rd party firewall that they were configuring properly, but discovered after much hair-pulling that the Windows firewall was enabled too.

Thanks. I already have "NextPVR.exe" white listed. Never had a problem scanning channels. Only running the Windows FireWall. There might be something else at play here. I'm going to do a fresh install on the other Win 7 Pro 32-bit system. That is a virgin system with only NPVR on it. I'll do the same thing there as I did for this current PC's install. (using a different downloaded install program/setup file) That way I can confirm it's not some oddball utility I have running here. I do some network managing software, mainly set up for wi-fi security etc. There could be something there that's blocking the recording/viewing signal.

Should I be okay with the default settings for the various codecs etc? Any suggestions there?

there are no default settings for codecs as far as I recall (I dunno, maybe NPVR does pick some for you these days?). For US ATSC/QAM I suggest Microsoft DVD-DTV Video decoder for MPEG-2 Video, Microsoft DVD-DTV Audio Decoder for MPEG-1 Layer II Audio, and AC3Filter (http://ac3filter.net) for AC3 Audio. Leave all other decoders Disabled. Use EVR for the Renderer.

The last peice of the puzzle was inserted this afternoon and voila - - - I have a working NPVR system.

I can't thank you guys enough. Kudos to johnsonx42, sub, Reddwarf, mvallevand and any others I may have missed.

I'm not at home at the minute. I'm at the computer repair shop I used to own years ago helping the guys with some booking stuff. While at the shop, I ran a program to allow me to access my main computer at home remotely (which has the NPVR system installed and running. So I was able to work on the problem from this remote site.

The last peice of the puzzle was getting the proper codecs in place. Thanks to johnsonx42 for that info.

As a side note, I have a nice home theater that has been running Beyond TV for well over 11 years. In fact that system is run 24/7 365 days, and never gets shut off. I was a beta tester with the SnapStream people going back before it was called Beyond TV. In the first seven year, that HTPC was shut off something like 3 or 4 times .. I only shut it down once in a while to blow the dust out, and to replace two video cards with failing fans, and one power supply. I always referred to my HTPC as my Tivo on steroids. It has been wonderfully reliable and well just always works.

Cox cable has been providing us with analog service for the last couple years and of course that worked fine with my analog tuners. The HTPC had 2 analog and 4 digital tuners. The digital were a mix of OTA HD digital and the local Clear QAM HD. But Cox is very close to terminating their analog for good. (I think it's coming up in June or July this year). Ergo I needed a tuner that could work with cable card. As I mentioned before, I wasn't really happy with WMC.

I was Sooooo happy to see you guys at NextPVR develop support for cable card. This in my estimation is the Holy Grail for all future PC based PVRs. It's too bad that SnapStream decided to stop supporting new tuners.

I'm new here and I have to say so far the experiance has been great. I hope to be able to contribute to this effort in many ways down the road.

sub Wrote:It was originally coded for testing to looking for that specific filename, but I never got around to going back and making it configurable. It never caused a problem since most people have it in that directory anyway.

You can probably copy just that file into that directory.

Just a note, it was a problem for me originally, too, until I was told it had to be in a specific directory. Like the OP, I like to install my applications on a different drive. Very few programs cause problems with that, so the few that do get installed on C:.

But I much prefer not to do that (makes it hard for me to find things sometimes), so I would vote for it being configurable. Just sayin'.

I'll try fix it for the next release.

Can HDHomeRun users confirm if they have a "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\InstallDir" registry setting that points to the correct directory?

System here is Win 7 Pro 64-bit

My registry value for Silicon dust is pointing to:

C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\

There are 5 tuners listed, 2-HDHR and 3 HDHR Prime

The next release uses this registry setting to locate the files it needs.

I have the same value in my registry for InstallDir (also Win7 Pro 64).

I don't have any specific tuners listed, but I have the Hauppauge WinTV-DCR-2650, so maybe it is different?

Mine is pointing to the same location as Rich A.

I only have 3-HDHR Prime, but do not see where they are listed.

I have no standard HDHR but NVPR device shows each of the 3 cable card tuners as well as an ATSC and QAM for each. I can not get NVPR to watch a channel. Wonder if this is the problem? How do I reset this so NVPR channels only show my 3 Prime tuners?
