Believe me it’s 11426 H for Freesat EPG. With all due respect to everyone here Sub can’t receive Astra 28.2 and tune to that mux to test it. As it stands I have TVHeadend feeding the 7 day EPG to NPVR while I continue testing.

I did tell you at the outset I used TVHeadend but was willing to try NPVR to see how it performed. I’ve been using TVHeadend for years since the days of XBMC.

Sub has gone to the trouble of porting NPVR to Linux so I imagine he’d welcome all the testing and feedback he can get particularly in an area like Europe where he’s outside the footprint . I’ll no doubt work this issue out myself and maybe if Sub wants me to continue testing and supplying feedback he could let me know.

Martin don’t feel obliged to respond to my posts. I’m sure Sub will pick them up at some stage and respond.

So can you tell me if this is correct info on the TVHeadend forum https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/18122. My feeling is TVHeadend is doing things behind the scenes making you think it is 11426

If you can do what was asked and send full muxes for both 11426 and 11428 the answer would be quite apparent, to those of use who can't receive the signals.

That post is ancient. A blind scan will pick up the correct mux number and the mux may have a slight variation depending on where you lie in the satellite footprint. For me in the centre of the footprint it’s 11426 H, no tricks. From time to time the EPG can go off line on the broadcast. Here’s an example of a post with a slight variation on the mux number.

https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/40141

Now you can see that a physical scan will automatically pick up the relevant mux. I don’t depend on lists to verify what muxes are available to me.

Yes similar to that post it turns out 11425 is the default in config.xml for Freesat tuning so basically NextPVR depends on a channel lock from your receiver more than anything. If that isn't locking maybe changing config.xml to 11428 might be better, sub will be changing that for new users anyway. The science will be the signal is on 11428 but as we all know when we tune a radio we don't have to be spot on.

Martin that is not the problem here. If that was the case half of the domestic set top boxes on sale wouldn’t pick up 7 day EPG. This mention of is the mux 11425,11426,11427 or 11428 H is becoming a red herring. I think Sub’s statement
“ freesat listings are being parsed from SAT>IP etc. It's probably just a little bit of missing glue” in the other post is probably more likely the cause of this issue. It looks like Sub is now on the case so hopefully it will get resolved.

@sub I’ve stopped posting on my thread as I’m following this one which is exactly the same subject https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=61407

What I do suggest is if it’s down to choice I’d recommend concentrating on getting OpenTV 7 day EPG working as it has all the Sky FTA, Freesat and non packaged FTA channel data. Freesat 7 day EPG is exactly that, only Freesat EPG data.

Based on the TVHeadend model you could prioritise EIT EPG grabbers so if for any reason OpenTV EPG is missing entries the Freesat EIT EPG could automatically fill in the gaps.

The EPG model TVHeadend has adopted should be easy to replicate in NPVR. All the work has already been done. I imagine Sub, if you crack the 7 day EPG situation for NPVR in Linux certainly for DVBS you’ll have a lot more Linux users migrating to NPVR. Linux users by nature do not want to be paying subscription fees for EPG data. They’d prefer to be donating to your project instead

In theory I do have everything required to implement that (with listings working from EIT, Freesat, OpenTV), but the hard bit is the development by guess work, and not being able to test it from end to end myself.

I will post an updated dll in the next day or so though, with an attempt at doing something like then when user has Freesat selected as the EPG source in NextPVR. (it'll collect both Freesat and OpenTV listings, and hopefully be able to choose a set of listings from both sources)

@sub yes it was never going to be easy solving this problem not having access to the satellite broadcasting the EPG. Looks like you’re on the right track though. Looking forward to trying a new release with your solution included.

I’ve been running NPVR side by side with TVHeadend for the last couple of weeks and it’s definitely holding up against it. With an integrated EPG solution included I may well be making a move to NPVR permanently. One big plus on your side is you’re actively developing which is important.

I have a 5 month old mux from 11788 and in comparing with PaulMc database from today with no data I made this list https://pastebin.com/W9WTgt3G and the indented ones were all found in OpenTV I bet some more would be in the list if I had a new mux.

There probably is no value in falling through to EIT for now/next only with Freesat, I expect it would take more more that one hour to scan those indented channels without OpenTV.

Since shows marked Freesat (at least on SAT>IP) don't fall through to EIT processing perhaps it is best to leave them marked Freesat (or Freesat/OpenTV if sub is able to add it) For those the user wants to process with EIT they can change them manually.

I’m assuming you are referring to 11778 V the mux with OpenTV EPG. What Sub needs to do is concentrate on extracting the 7 day EPG from that and have it populate the relevant channels. Once Sub has achieved that we can see channels are not populated and then look at alternative sources to achieve that.

It’s best if we stay with the thread that Sub is troubleshooting at the moment as I have exactly the same setup as that user. No point duplicating the process.
