"hiderun.exe" did not do what I wanted (did not seem to be able to pass the mencoder parameters properly). Tried "posthaste.exe" with same problem (better GUI than hiderun though).

Then I found "dirmon2" and it did the trick
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16318

I schedule it to run at night. It scans the directories and runs comskip and Stattik's script which calls mencoder with the right parameters. It then runs a batch file to move the avi to another folder.
(This is what I wanted to do; keep original mpeg and encode an avi to another directory). Yes, Stattik script should do this but I never got the directory monitoring to work and could not move the avi even with inserted DOS commands in his file.

dirmon2 is a very slick program with functionality I will likely use in the future.

Thanks

Thanks.

I'm not aware of any way to hide them.

That's is why dirmon2 does the trick. It will hide the running of the files.

works great; good GUI. runs as a process and hide everything it runs.

I have a specific recordings that is being flagged a PSP3. I'm not seeing why this is happening.

The filename is "Late Show With David Letterman-080130-No Episode - (2008-01-29).ts" This a HDTV capture. The other shows I'm testing againsts are being flagged as HiDef.

I can't see any reason it would get flagged as psp3 unless the script is having problems with the parenthesis. You could test without them. Either way, if you send me a debug I'll look at it.

The recording of Lost was deleted by my wife so i guess i'll watch for the fluke in the future.

I'm now running into an issue where commericals are not being cut out with any recordings. I had this working fine in the past when i played around with the encoder scripts but now no matter what i try it encodes the full show.

Here's the problem:

SET dontuse_edl_patterns="+edl" ".ts"

Should just be:

SET dontuse_edl_patterns="+edl"

It was set to ignore edl processing for .ts files. I had this set because my comskip doesn't always catch all the commercials and I forgot to remove it before releasing the script. I'll remove it for the wiki version.

PS: I notice that you use the mkv container and 1280x720 x264(crf18) with ac3 audio. How does that work out for you? What kind of bitrates/filesizes do you typically get? When I plan to upgrade to hdtv in a few months, I'd like to use similar settings.

Thanks.

That did the trick for commericals.

I still haven't had any luck with mkv/x264 encoding. The last encode resulted in no video and audio only. I'll post the results once I get something that works. I'm going to try a newer version of mplayer.

I tried mkv with mp3 and ac3 audio and they both worked. I'm using mencoder.2007.12.03.

I'm really not having luck with the mkv container. The video data is in the encode but the video just pin isn't rendered when testing in GraphEdit. I tried VLC and video is rendered but is very-very-very jumpy/jerky. I'm able to build a correct DS graph with any other mkv file I throw at my system and I verified on multiple(3) machines.

I'm using a lower resolution for testing but here is the mediainfo output:
