I'm haven't been in this forum lately, but I also have a problem with the jerky live tv. I can solve the problem by changing the cpu affinity to run on both cpu cores. I'm not running the latest GBPVR, I think it is 01-09-2006 Build 30.
I upgrade some day, but it's working well with 4 capture devices and 5 mvp's.

Sub,

The patch worked for me, too. I have been fussing with codecs and quartz files for a few days now, but this patch is what I needed. What are we sacrificing by using this patch?

Nothing. There was a big in v0.98.13 that would cause it to still refresh the menus in the background (next recording, clock etc) even when video was running fullscreen. This patch corrects that behaviour.

Is there a list of 98.13 patches sitting around somewhere? Forum search only reveals applicable threads, not individual messages.

Thanks.

No there isnt. I post the bugs I consider important in the 'v0.98.13 survival guide' thread. The other patches were less important, and were only really provided so people can test them for me before they're included in the next release.

The jury is still out on this patch - I'm waiting for more feedback before I decide if I add this patch to that list.

In the end I never managed to resolve the stuttering issue that I had with v97.13. The symptoms appeared to come and go and I thought I had found a pattern at one stage. It seemed that when the HDD only had 7GB or less free space, the stuttering subsided. When I deleted recordings the stuttering got worse. I defraged and ran all sort of disk diagnostics as I thought the problem may have been caused by bad sectors. All tests suggested that my HDD was in perfect condition though. I also put in a second drive but upgraded to v98.13 at the same time so have not been able to ascertain whether this would have made any difference. Given what I have now found I doubt it.

v98.13 has not resolved any problems. It may even be slightly worse. I am experiencing the 5 second stutters that a number of others appear to be suffering with. I have changed the 'next recording' settings to 'false' in skin.xml (for both blue and advisor) and used the gbpvr.exe patch to no avail.

HOWEVER, I think I have found the reason behind the CPU spikes that cause the stutter. The trouble is I don't have the technical skill to resolve the problem. GBPVRRecordingService.exe uses 100% of the CPU every 5 seconds. If watching live TV this is exactly in time with the jumpy, stuttering images and sound. In fact, it makes no difference whether viewing live TV or making a recording. Stop the GBPVRRecordingService and the spikes stop. Restart it and the spikes return. So whatever GBPVRRecordingService does every 5 seconds is the root of the problem.

Any thoughts???

So if you shutdown the recording service, does the stuttering go away when watching a video?

Also, what database are you using? Still using the MDB access database, or have you switched to SQLite?

I haven't changed the database, so whatever database is installed by default I suppose. How would I find out?

With regards to playback, if the original recording had been OK then the spiking doesn't make too much difference (although it is smoother with GBPVRRecordingService stopped). If it was a recording that I'd been having trouble with whilst recording then the stuttering is actually recorded.
