broadband412 Wrote:Very interesting info fatman_do. Thanks. I remember reading somewhere that sony plans on allow background downoads so you can still do other things on the ps3 while a download is completed. I hope this happens sooner than later. Although I currently do not have a ps3, I hope to get on in the future. I'm hapy to see that at least a group of people can have a decent conversation about the system instead of fanboy talk.

Hopefully this forum will not be the place for fanboy system bashing. To be honest, I don't see the point in it. Maybe it is my age, but who gives a rip which gaming system one chooses? All the chatter on the gaming sites is nonsense. Its like arguing over which tv one has.

Speaking of tv's, I just bought a 50" Sony 1080p rear projection unit. Best Buy had 36 months of 0% financing and they matched Circuit City's price of $1979.99 (retail price $2399.99).

Five days later, I got laid off from my job and am unemployed (maybe until tomorrow anyway).

I have all the luck.

future versions should be able to playback DVD's with additional software. the current versions are not able to playback DVD's & won't be able to do that even with that additional software (most likely missing MPEG2 decoder chip?). i don't really expect nintendo to release any SDK supporting this features, that's not what they aimed at...

This could be the opportunity to apply for a job as a tv-show-reviewer.Big Grin

Who is paying $834?? The retail price in the US is $499 and $599.

I scored a new job. The downside is I cannot do as much here because of that. The old place I worked at has been dying the last two years, and I maintained the computers and did alot of screwing off on the net or coding xml. The new gig will have me working 55hrs a week in a less secluded "open room" layout. I start in another week.

wow. there are times i'm glad to live in good ol' germany. legal limit here for normal employees is 10 hours a day, if you keep hitting that mark regularly, your employer is bound to get trouble. i hope you at least get the money associated with that hours & wish you good luck Wink

Release price here in the UK is going to be £425 for the 60 Gig bundle (plus retailers are bound to push up the prices by only selling games bundles).

Good 'ole rip-off-britain is getting what you buy for $599 at the equivalent of $834. Yay.

Guess I'll be waiting 6 months to a year for my Nintendo and/or Sony fix, after prices drop to something sensible.

PS. Well done on the new job, not sure about working hours though either! 55 hours, whoa!

I am an hourly wage earner, not salary. Anything over 40hrs a week is paid at 1.5 times my normal pay rate. I have been averaging 50hrs a week over the last 18 years of my work life so I am used to it. Believe me, I'd rather not. Ten hours a day during the week, and five on Saturday.

speaking of ps3 rip-off... good ol' germany beats britain...
regular price starts at 778$ (600€) but sellers get creative, amazon germany announced to guarantee delivery at the official start. yeah, well, sort of. you only get that guarantee when you order an additional PSP for a total of 1.038$ (800€), of course you're not allowed to send back the PSP Wink
just wonder if they get away with it, it's kind of illegal, only way they could really enforce it would be if they deliver the PSP about 1 month before the PS3 (else you're allways entitled to send the PSP back, no matter what they say)

Thats what really gets me; the "extra value" bundles that the retailers sell.

I bought a PSP when they were pretty new, and there was no-one selling *just* a PSP. Every single one was selling bundled packs with crappy games which werent selling.

I wound up buying a pack with "everybodys golf" (excellent game, which I didn't mind) and some *really, really* crappy football game which spent a grand total of 3 minutes in my PSP before being ebayed.
