sub Wrote:Unfortunately I dont seem to be able to reproduce it. It seems to cancel your pending recordings ok for me.
Does it have the problem every time you try?
No, but it's more than 50% of the time. My impression is that it seems to happen more often when the recording has been running for a long time. I'll keep looking for clues.
was way worse for me on long records also...usually when i manually scheduled a basketball game..
[3+hrs.] those were extremely hard to stop near the end...
that's how i first noticed the problem...
usually i had been watching the show right up until cancelling it, so i thought it might be related to update of last play position..

There are times I wish I had taken notes on what happened, but this is very similar to what I'm seeing. It could be related to last play position updates.
IIRC, I was watching a football game as it recorded. The games regularly run over. I used to always postpad, until I read sub's message that postpad is optional, and is ignored if something else is scheduled. I changed and now either record another program on the same channel after the game, or check that nothing is scheduled after, so that I'm reasonably sure postpad will record. I can't remember which I did, but whichever it was, after the game finished, I tried to clean up by stopping the active recording. That failed. I think I was in the long original recording (nearly caught up to live) and couldn't stop that long recording.
I have been watching and trying to reproduce, but when I'm playing around with short recordings that I don't care about, I can always cancel. It could have to do with actively watching a recording (particularly a long recording) as it records. (Comskip is running in parallel processing, too) I only do that with games. I'm going to run some more tests this weekend.
The longest recordings other than games are movies of only a few hours, and those are almost never watched as they record.
sounds about same here...thesedays i just let game record to end and everything's fine..
but cancelling i still get at least one failure before it works..
on a side note [but possibly related] i have several shows showing 01-01-1980 for dates as reoccurring recordings...is that ok or should i try getting rid of those?
[holdovers from several upgrades ago]
does this mean they've lost their epg data reference?

i thin i may have stumbled across a cause...do any of you have <AutoRemoveMissingRecordings>false?
looks like some shows i moved to a different location were causing my problems..
[renamed remote server and hadn't updated paths in db]
so i renamed my dump file and set autoremove to 'true' and cranked it up to remove any strays, then back to false...
everything seems zippier right now.. quick records have no delays....
will check a manual record tonight...[basketball] and try to stop it before end..
yep, that cured it right off..cancelled after watching a couple of hours, and file was 3:30 into it.
[scheduled to stop after 3:45]
and it disappeared immediately.. Sweet!
[Finally!]
i'll see if some of the other weirdness is gone too but everything looks like it should now..
must have been bogged down when going into recordings screen, refreshing the list, with missing network paths present..[tho probably same if local path]
anybody else who's having this problem should try setting:
<AutoRemoveMissingRecordings>true</AutoRemoveMissingRecordings>
but make sure to make a backup of your info first! [rename recordings-dump.xml]

just to add yes everything is definitely back to working properly, my epg updates had become painfully slow...even sometimes failing...so i had to stop the rec service to complete them..
now works as it should
wondering if there's anything that can be done about it? maybe just an 'export orphaned info' so we can re-import later, cuz sometimes it's hard to figure out which shows were the problem... and remove them from db when the export is done, alleviating the db problem..
or simply having the cleanup done by 'autoremovemissing..' gathered and appended to a 'junk' file to retrieve info from later...
then more users would not be hesitant to leave it set to true..
so looks like it's fixed me completely...
goodie, now i can upgrade to latest version...lol
hope it solves some of the others' problems as well..
