Also, what version of the plugin are/were you using?

The plugin enters an idle state when it's not the active screen, so it stops all monitoring of active recordings, disk space, hardware, and so on, and basically does nothing. I'm still struggling to think - especially in light of that - how it could cause your database file to lock.

First of all to Iain: my apologies.

I looked up the author of the plugin in the wiki and in a hurry sent a PM to inform of my problem, in my haste I didn't realize it was you (you had posted in this thread, so you knew).

Second: I have been testing a lot, I am running out of time for the moment. But, I think you are wright, it may not be your plugin that's been causing my problem.

I think, again I have little time at this moment, I know what was causing the problem. But I don't want to make another wrong accusation. I will report tonight.

I don't mind accusations, wrong or otherwise. If there *is* a problem, then obviously I'd like to get to the bottom of it. If there's not, then no harm done Smile

Well, here it goes. I have tested and I believe to have found the problem:

Sometime ago I made a resume.bat in the folder "Scripts". Yesterday, I was doing some tests. Probably in 1 test I uninstalled the plugin System AND deleted resume.bat

After this the problem was probably fixed.

So I put the resume.bat back and the problem was indeed back again.

The resume.bat contained 1 sentence:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR\NPVRServiceControl.exe" start

Then, in my last test just now, I deleted this resume.bat again. After a reboot, sleep and wake everything functioned normally. Then I did a "restart recording service" through the ntray.exe. After that I could program a recording, but NPVR will not record.
When I AGAIN did a "restart recording service" through the ntray.exe and I programmed a recording, NPVR freezed totally. Both situations can only be resolved with a reboot.

So I guess the problem is: restarting the recording service causes a problem after the pc has gone to and woken from sleep.

Why would you possibly want to do that? It is the Recording Service that calls resume.bat so you are telling it to start a second Recording service.

That was probably as a result of a stupid advice from me, I thought that it was the windows task scheduler that runs Resume.bat. I was not aware that it was Nrecord.

I apologize I could be mistaken maybe it is a scheduled task, but even then you certainly would not want to do it without making sure the service is stopped.

Well that was my original advice, stop recording service, kill Ntray then start the recording service.

What have I done......

I've made a mistake with resume.bat . I must have put the "NPVRServiceControl.exe start" in there some time ago when I was experimenting with something, but I really don't know what and why anymore. That caused the not recording problem in the first place.
But I didn't know that "you certainly would not want to do it without making sure the service is stopped." . If I had known, I wouldn't have done it.
If it does (I don't know if it does) , wouldn't it be better if the program checks if a "ignorent" user does "NPVRServiceControl.exe start" to see if the recording service is already running?

But, AFTER A SLEEP AND WAKE would it be stupid to do a "restart recording service" through ntray too? That's what causes these problems, just as "NPVRServiceControl.exe start" does.
In trying to solve my problem (just not recording, but no freezing), I found that out.

Sub, I found out that restarting the recording service causes a problem AFTER the pc has gone to and woken from sleep.
I'm not going to do that anymore obviously, but a user might want to do that and it would cause a problem (after 1x: only no recording taking place, after 2x: NPVR freezes when trying to program a recording).
