Unfortunately for me when I brought my Samsung tvs I didn't think needed smart hub so I brought the cheaper tvs

Me too. But when the 2014 TVs come out, and the upgrade for the smart hub is $800 (what they did to the 2012 TVs) I'd feel better about changing a $170 bluray player and not a $1000 TV.

on my nz tv, i turned it on and it was in the american store (i think it must be because im using unblock-us).

so im running netflix successfully (use this many times every day, my son loves netflix). the app for netflix is exactly the same as the ps3 as far as i can tell.

but since im in the US store i cannot install tvnz on demand, i rather have netflix. im trying to get tvnzondemand channel on plex working, but apparently the samsung app doesnt support rtsp streams so it wont do playback (even though i thought plex could transcode stuff if the client doesnt support it...). also having issues getting tvnz channel working on server 2012 (gave up once i found out about samsung rtsp limitation).

i honestly dont know enough about samsung devices to say what it will run on, to my knowledge it should work on any smarthub device, but im not sure what remote buttons are available. and im planning on using buttons like "channel list" to bring up a mini guide during live tv playback (similar to mediaportal, just because i really really really loved this feature). also "info" opens/closes the osd.

i can only test this on a 2013 and a 2012 model tv. the 2013s are dual cores. im trying to keep the processing to a minimum and not implementing a lot of cpu intensive CSS effects, i can always make a "HD" theme which enables this if your tv is new enough.

i figured with the amount of money ive sent on clients, remotes, etc to get a media centre, spending the extra to get a good smart tv was worth it.

ive successfully dropped every client and running plex, netflix, and now nextpvr in the tv without a HTPC/OUYA/RaspberryPI.

this was all thanks to the pi, which made me try plex, which made me see the plex for samsung app, which made me drop the ouya (anyone want to buy one Tongue)

I think you need to cross me off the list of potential testers. It looks like my BluRay isn't "Smart". Sad
Tuners: SD HDHR Prime (HDHR3-CC). SD HDHR Connect Quatro Tuner (HDHR5-4US) - only QAM.  EXVIST H.265 Encoder - capturing cable box.
Client: Odroid-N2 running knewc on KODI - connected via MoCA.

Actually it turns out I have the BD-D5300 Blu-ray. There does seem to be varying levels of SmartHub App compatibility, since when I select my specific player here: http://www.samsung.com/us/appstore/browse, only 248 out of the 941 total apps are available. Clearly there are some apps that depend on features a Blu-ray player just doesn't have, but I suspect some apps require newer hardware than mine. Hopefully the NextPVR app will work on most all "Smart" devices.

Yeah I know that when the plex plugin the later models get it first
Samsung seem to be pretty strict on their testing for each year before its released into the app store.
Funny thing is plex works way better than the shitty Samsung player ever did

- basic settings is done, no longer hard coded to my server Smile.
- tv guide now shows recording indicators (top red bars) and scheduled recordings are displayed as red. tv guide navigation is complete
- empty guide gaps are now filled with "(no show details)"

i'm wanting to work on scheduling recordings next, just waiting to hear back about the service api methods.

whats left
- complete recordings screen (whats new, pending, recurring, conflicts + group recordings into folders)
- add quick record (record button in tv guide)
- recording options in tv guide dialog
- finish splash screen
- create popup alert dialog for messages (currently once settings are saved it doesnt say "Connected", which it should.)
- add comskip support

and then ill release a private beta version for testing and feedback.
