I've added a bit of extra detail to the wiki instructions on installing SoftPVR, hopefully to make it a bit clearer for newer, less experienced users.

Alex

I have downloaded wintv_cd_3.9g.exe and put in in Wintv Directory and added softpr.bat file to the directory. I get the following error message when I ran the bat file as an administrator:

There is a softpvr directory created in the C:\ but it's empty. And there is a directory called Syswow64 in windows which has 1.2 gbs stuff in it. Could you please advise me how to proceed now?

The zip file contains an unreadable Word document called ~$Npvr3.doc. Did you mean to zip and attach the file called npvr3.doc?

I must have zipped while it was still open in Word. This should be readable. It's print screen image pasted in Word and then zipped.

Which SoftPVR script did you run (SoftPVR.zip or SoftPVR_beta.zip)? I just ran the _beta version and it worked fine for me...

I ran the beta SoftPVR.Zip this time (the files seem identical when unizipped!). And it did run successfully! When I ran the devices in the settings, now I find ATI AVstrem Analog Capture (which was never displayed before)!

But when I scanned for channels, it ran through all the 158 channels (physical) and gave no listings. And that's where I am now stuck.

If you use a set top box box (like a DTA or converter), then you don't scan. Instead you just use the 'import' button to import your list of tv channels, or use the 'add' button to manually add them.

I'm not familiar with the ATI Wonder 650 HD. With my Hauppauge card, there is an IR Blaster port and a cable that has a LED on one end that I attach to the 'eye' on the STB. This is how the card sends the signal to the STB to change channels. How does that work with the ATI card? Do you basically need a separate IR blaster device?

A little googling appears to show you need a separate device (if yours does not come with an IR Blaster input and cable)... However, maybe someone on this forum has your setup and can chime in...

I personally have only used Hauppauge cards, they have IR blasters built in, and HDHR devices which are controlled over the network.

I just checked the manual for the tuner card: there are only the following ports on the back of the card: 1) Antenna in; 2) S-Video; 3) TV-in (for Coaxial input); 4) Audio input.

That's it. I don't see any IR Blaster input or cable.

I think there is some missing info if WMC is able to use this card and actually record.
