Just a recap and a bit more info on my setup in case it might help:
Issue is with most over the air channels, not all, over the network

All Windows 10 server/clients
Server Hardware
  Hauppauge WinTV 885 ATSC Tuner (OTA)
  Hauppage HD-PVR Colossus2 (Dish satellite) (No issues)

NLite on server:
NLite works locally on the server with recordings in progress.

NLite on Client: (Windows 10)
With NLite on a client machine, I can switch to the guide and watch the show while it is recording.

Roku:
I tried NextPVR on a Roku, it will play the recording in progress, but no audio (known issue with Roku)
However, when I try to exit the recording, I get a blank screen with the progress bar and have to hit exit again.

Emby Theater: (Windows 10)
I have Emby server setup with a library to the NPVR folder.
Emby Theater will play recordings in progress (but doesn't recognize the file is growing)
I've attached media info for 2 recordings from Emby Theater in case that might help.
CBS won't play from NPVR, NBC will
CBS has a lower bitrate.

This isn't a huge issue for me as most of the time I watch shows after they have been recorded.
Mainly it's news programs and late night shows that I would like to watch before they are finished recording.

nlite on client for me I can't play in-progress remote files from the guide or recording,

Roku, playing AC-3 files on a device that doesn't support AC-3 is not considered an issue, it is a shortcoming of the cheaper Roku devices. Go to Walmart and spend $20 on the ONN so you can run uidroid

Emby Theater. Not worth looking into, Emby would need to support growing files. The issue is only with nlite's chunk reader, the files themselves are playable since as you know you can watch them when they have finished.

Forgot to mention I have Jellyfin setup as well, but haven't been using it because the remote support isn't very good, something I hope to sort out this fall.
Last time I tried playing a recording in progress, Jellyfin crashed when it hit what it thought was the end of the recording... Something I should retest and report to them I suppose.
I'll check out the ONN.

Yes that would be a problem for Jellyfin, NextPVR in progress recording streaming need custom streaming, but they should be able to handle the original content-length

Now that I have the ONN and it works playing a recording in progress, would it help if I provided a server log where I try both ONN/UIDROID and NLite against a recording in progress?

No, sub expects there is a problem in the nlite custom chunked reader which is different then uidroid logic, he just hasn't had time to look further into it.

It should work for in-progress recording playback from Windows server in the current release. I'm pretty sure I've only seen the issue with playback from a Linux server.
