Okay cheers. I'll remove the reference, I think I should stick with "out of the box" features.

whurlston Wrote:Yup, you're right. I'll look into this and see if it's a Safari issue or just an iPhone issue

I can't reproduce this in Safari, everything appears to render okay. I've tried setting the user agent string to mobile Safari (3 + 2.2.1), but I'm not sure if that's doing anything.

The site is not designed for mobile browsers and I don't have anything to test on. The only thing I can think of is, I had to specify a text size in the HTML body when I first started making the page or it wouldn't load properly in firefox. I've just checked again now and for whatever reason this isn't required any more. This may be (???) preventing the iphone from scaling the text down, I've no idea. We could try removing the reference (???)

Other than that, I think I've got the compatibility up pretty high now and it should look okay for the vast majority.

That's weird (but then again it's all weird to me Smile). The formatting for the tabs is basically the same. Some of the text is in a list form (/bullet pointed) in the features tab, but I'm at a loss as to why one tab would have different size text to another.

whurlston is kindly hosting this, so I'll attach the latest html+css here. I've just removed the font setting for the page and tweaked some other font references - I think this fall into the hail mary play for me Big Grin

THat change didn't fix it. I also noticed that it was happening on the Community tab but not on the About tab so I looked to see what was different. It turns out that there is something about the list tags that the iPhone doesn't like (<ul> and <li> ). If you try index2.html, I removed them from the Features tab and it functions just fine.

I may be able to fix this with the css but I'm not sure if it will mess anything else up or not. We'll see. It's definitely only happening with the iPhone though. Safari on a Mac doesn't have the issue as Hairy noted.

Edit: I just noticed that Hairy mentioned the bulleted lists in his post. I'm not sure what's going on with the Community tab though since it doesn't have lists, maybe the img tag?

Ok, http://oshinetworks.com/gbpvr/index2.html fixes the iPhone issue but in order do to it, it makes the text on the Features and Community tabs slightly smaller on other browsers. I can only guess that it has something to do with the fonts built into the iPhone.

Without baking your noodle with too much back and forth :o (but I am learning a lot from fixing the things I didn't know needed fixing). How about we reduce the line hight of the text, to give us that little bit more room in the tab. Rather than reducing the font size, as the text appears a little too small to me at 15pt.

Attached has tab text line height set to 1.1em, but could probably go to 1em if really needed.

Cheers

Uploaded but I say we put the line spacing back the way it was. It looks a little cramped now and the iPhone issue has returned.

I don't like the 15px font either. So I say that we either not worry about the iPhone or I can write a javascript that make the font smaller ONLY if it's being viewed on an iPhone.

BTW: believe it or not, this is actually relaxing to my brain compared to the other stuff I have going on in there. Big Grin

Edit: I could also use php instead of javascipt to fix it too now that I think about it.

Cheers whurlston,

It's so frustrations not being able to see the problem or have some sort of testing set-up so I can try out ideas, without hassling someone else. I guess I need a server Big Grin

Personally I think this is the best bet. The page should look okay to the vast majority of people who view it (it's also way better than what's there at the moment - you should check it out in IE6 :eekSmile.

It also gives me an excuse to look into developing a mobile 320x480 version.
