I have this problem with NewCS that after a reboot it does not always recognize the smartcard, I have to check it manually after each reboot and often (about 1 out of 3 times) I have to stop and restart it. Maybe you have the same problem?

Yes, I have that same issue.

I'm not sure whether this instability also occurs during recording which could be the cause of the problem I've described in this thread. Have you had such an experience? (recording ending too soon, that is, NPVR keeps on recording according to the logs but the length of the videofile is shorter than the duration of the programmed recording).

Thinking about, yes I have seen a few lately, but they are rare. The thought that NewCS might fail in the middle of a recording have never struck my mind, but now I'll keep an eye on the newcs logs.

It wasn't deleted, but I did edit my post a couple of seconds after I posted it, changing it to "Are you using different H.264 decoders on the two machines? "

My problem happened to me mostly when recording a show of 3 hours (Formula 1, and the next broadcast is sunday). The long duration of the recording makes it more vulnerable than a short show if an instable newcs is the cause of my problem. I've set logging on acamd and newcs to text-file output, so we'll see.

I'm writing a batch file that can be auto-started (task scheduler or folder startup) after reboot which starts newcs, checks the logs to see if it started like it should and if not stops and restarts it. I'm an amateur at this and I have to test it but I think it should work.

I'd be glad if you would share it when you have it working, would save me a lot of trouble :o

Sure, I will PM you. I thought I got it working yesterday evening already, but I made a mistake. I corrected it, but I need some time to test it before I send it to you. It won't take long. It's very crude, but effective so forgive me it's not very refinely programmed.

Sub, the problem is back today and I think it's because I got .NET and windows updates installed this morning (I've had problems with windows updates before, that's why in the past I disabled automatic updates but since Windows 7 I have turned it on again).
Since I can't watch HD video in NPVR but I can in WMP, I think 1 or more of the updates is causing NPVR to not show HD video.

I attached the logs and there's an error in it.

Reddwarf, I just sent you a PM with the batch file. Let me know if you find a bug and tell me what you think of it.
If others are interested too, just PM me.

I must admit that I haven't had dealings with smart cards since the late 90's (Sky analogue & Scandinavian D2MAC) but I was wondering, could the loss of recordings - particularly on long programs in the early hours - be due to the Provider changing encryption codes (Electronic Counter Measures)? Possibly by the time the Card Reader has loaded the new code (If it does) NPVR has deemed the recording failed / over.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

Sub, I just put the old ghost image back and now I can watch HD channels again. I turned off windows update, but do the logs give you any clues about the problem?
