I'm assuming that's the technical term for it. :-) What's the best way to fix that problem? I followed another forum thread to download what was supposedly the best Cyberlink Mux. I dunno.
I think you seem to be going around and around in circles on this. I'm sure you've asked this same round of questions many times now.

Pretty much all you can do is try a different version of the mux (they dont seem to like ATSC for the most part), or find some other mechanism for doing the conversion, or learn to live with leaving your recordings as dvr-ms files.

Have you tried recording with the TS Mux and converting it with ffmpeg? If you want to make a DVD then it has to be converted from 1080i/720p to 480i/p at some point and ffmpeg works just as well with .ts originals as it does .mpg.

If you're having a problem transcoding an HD .ts to an SD .mpg then that's a completely different problem to solve. I do it every week so it is a solvable problem.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying... 1st problem is that I can't keep the TS from stuttering when recording. I don't know why. The cpu usage is low like 10% in recording and 40% in playback. Still stutters. That's beside the point. I don't get it, but either way every attempt I have made to convert the TS file fails. I don't remember if it was on this thread, but Sub said that it's the Cyberlink mux crashing. I'm fairly certain I have the one specified in a different thread. I have both of these muxes as well as the sorry Intervideo plus good old M$.

Found: CyberLink MPEG Muxer
FILE: C:\Program Files\devnz\Cyberlink Mux\thmpgmux.ax
VERSION: 5.0.2022

Found: ATI MPEG Multiplexer
FILE: C:\Program Files\Common Files\ATI Technologies\Multimedia\atidvcr.dll
VERSION: 9.14.0.60504

I tried using gui4ffmpeg, but it couldn't convert the Ts file to mpeg or avi. I think it had to do with where I had the TV.avs stored. I'm trying a conversion right now. It started, but then crashes half way throuhg the conversions with a small file size. Like I said before, the GB-pvr auto conversion/transcode options experience a similar problem and would get hung in creating a temp mpg around 30mb. Yeah if you're willing to post all of the extra stuff you have that helps you run that I would love to know. Furthermore, it would be great to have the command line for ffmpeg using a generic format so that I could have it in my postprocessing.bat vs. using Gb-pvr. I want to convert the files to divx: using a quality of 4-5, and then 720 X 480... other than that I don't really care what the settings are. I haven't received a response from anyone on how to do that though.

If you can help thanks... I would seem as though I've done something weird though to mess stuff up. I certainly can't figure it out.

No, thats not quite what I said. I said that was the problem when you were trying to convert your .DVR-MS files (which uses GBPVRConvert, which uses the Cyberlink mux). When you convert a .TS file, it uses ffmpeg.

Sorry, didn't mean to miss-quote you Sub. :-) You're right there are three different scenarios.

DVR-MS via GBPVRConvert crashes around 30mb b/c of Cyberlink Mux identified by Sub
TS via GBPVRConvert crashes around 20-25mb --Unknown reason
TS via gui4ffmpeg which crashed around 32mb -- Unknown reason..

The only other thing that I can think which I've done which might be different is that I'm recording in the highest possible quality for these shows? Is it possible that it's trying to record more kbits than are really there? That sounds outlandish concerning my via of how it works, but I obviously don't understand it perfectly otherwise I would have it working right. :-)

Thanks for your help guys.

The recording qualities are ignored when doing digital recordings, so it wont be that. With digital you get whatever bitrate the broadcaster is transmitting with.

Are you finding different channels behave differently? I'm suspecting its something in the broadcast stream that is causing it balk.

If you have access to a web server, and can make a 200MB or so transport stream recording, I'm happy to try it here.

I'd be willing to do that. I just need to know what I need to do. :-) I have access to our school's T3. So it shouldn't be a problem sending you any files you need. At home I have a 1mbit connection via my sprint phone, but it's not always reliable.

Just record a 200MB long recording via a manual recording, then let me know the download URL.

I just remembered that we have a secure server on campus that I can put it on then send you an invite to it. What e-mail address would you prefer that sent to?
