So basically uninstall the lot, remove the files in "public" and "program files", re-install and re-set up scanning channels, my XML TV guide and Commskip and then re-link the clients....darn...a lot of work when I would just rather a fix :-(

Deleting program file and reverting to your pre-upgrade backup of the data directory is certainly a better option, but you asked how to do a clean re-install

Actually, I asked if I can tell without great effort (as in completely doing a clean re-install) that I am indeed using 2.5.5 as the config.xml file doesn't correct change with only a partial re-install....oh well...hopefully sub will get some free time and be able to pin point why a bunch of us are getting these issues on 2.5.9 but it seems okay (or much more stable) on 2.5.5.....

config-old.xml (or something like it) is a backed up version of the previous installs config file.
I took a copy of configold, uninstalled 2.5.9, deleted any left over files (except plugins and the main .db3 file) in the NPVR folders and then installed 2.5.5 and copied config old back in as config.xml. Worked fine.

Has there been any developments on this problem? The LiveTV streams on my client hang pretty regularly and unfortunately I can't 'roll back 'to 2.5.5 because my capture device is an HD PVR-2.

I have rolled my system back to 2.5.5. and I still see the problem, BUT it is only with my HDHR Prime tuners. If I watch a channel on an ATSC tuner then it never seems to hang, but still hangs regularly when watching a channel on the Prime.

Also, not sure if this is related, but after several Live TV sessions, I get an error saying that either the tuner can't be found or that it couldn't communicate with the recording service. I have seen where first one, then two tuners disappear leaving only one Prime tuner working, and eventually the third disappears. I have to restart the Recording Service on the NPVR server to make it see the Prime unit again.

I am using HDHR Prime tuners also....interesting enough though if I watch LiveTV via XBMC I get no issues....only when using the NextPVR client...

Not sure if that helps Sub?

I'm rapidly moving towards using PlexHT (a rolled version from Martin) that enabled PVR functionality found in XBMC Frodo....Martin's aptly named it PlexPVR....thus far I have found it very solid with no drop outs...

This is true for me also, but I'm using the DCR-2650. Typically my wife watches live TV, the tuners disappear, then subsequent recordings fail. And the temp folder fills up. We have a "live TV is fraught with danger" mandate in effect.... but since we only watch live TV every week or so, it's no big deal.

My HVR-950Q tuners do not show this behavior, but they have undesirable traits of their own (like slow channel changes, and less channels than on basic cable, compared to a cablecard).

smajor, do you have a regular digital tuner as well? If so, does the problem happen with that?

I've been trying to reproduce this issue yesterday and today, but I've been unable to get the problem. Admittedly I'm using DVB, so its a bit different to your setup.

I had previously thought I'd reproduced the problem, but it just turned out to be poor-signal + decoder locking up on the other machine I was using.
