Ok so far:
I have never been able to build without errors these have been whittled down and I am now at just 2 remaining.

Events to date:
1. XP Media was faulty - rectified by changing media
2. nu2menu not provided - rectified by pBS
3. GBPVR not copying - rectified by pBS
4. Complaints over line length - rectified by reming as suggested by pBS

The 2 errors left are:

1. ASFSIPC.DLL file not found this is not on my XP SP2 source
2. DXMRTP.DLL file not found this is not on my XP SP2 source

I have not tried installing off this XP SP2 source before so I cannot confirm that winxp actually doesnt require them, can you please give assistance or advice at this point?

Thanks

sounds like a wmp10 issue...did you run the wmp10 batch file?
[it slipstreams your xpsp2 built in wmp to ver. 10]
you need MP10Setup.exe in same dir..
or look inside that setup file for the needed files..

ooops, no it's something to do with the directx stuff..

it is on both my MCE and reg winXP as well..
the file names come from your inf's anyways...Smile
so the files should be there..
it's part of windows remote networking so you'd miss it..
remember, it has to be sp2 xp..slipstreamed properly..

What if you could use a CF card with an IDE adapter for the OS and software. Not sure on the speed but it should be faster then USB and it would give you read/write access. I know you have resolved this for CD/DVD boot with cache but it could give you more control over setting and not have to re-burn the disc for adjustments.

I did not know if it was attempted or if it could help.

You want to keep the OS read only with a CF card.
Otherwise you would burn out the card with the writes to it.
Possibly a CF to IDE card for running the OS & a usb thumbdrive for storing settings?

I wondered how that part was coming along with CF and flash drives. I have heard that it is better but Windows is definitely not flash friendly.
Could you not use the CD boot image, since this would limit the writing and let GBPVR write what it needs or still use cache? For read only it still should be faster then USB and maybe even CD/DVD on bootup times.

You should be able to.
If you can boot the CD image off a regular HD then you can boot it off a CF.
I don't know the transfer rate of CF cards though.

just one prob with booting it off writable media.....net 2.0 won't work!
for some reason .net2 won't work from a writable source in this scenario...
i haven't tried with media with a readonly switch on it but it would have to be a hardware switch...
who knows, xp may only allow it on optical media...it is smart enough to know the diff.

now boot off cdrom and using thumb drive for temp would work just fine...Smile
and probably fastest option..

tho the way winpe is structured, saving changes isn't really feasable, changes don't get loaded upon boot...tho hives are able to be loaded...would have to be done manually..

after trying booting on a thumb drive or mem card, i'm sticking with optical..
they are sooooo slow! optical is acceptable and remember you shouldn't have to reboot almost ever, as nothing can mess with the environment, except for gbpvr crashing..Smile

you can set it up where you boot off cd and use hard drive for gbpvr..Smile
changes to gb would be saved...the os,not...Big Grin

right now, it will automatically look for gb on hd and if not found, use the one off cd..[check the autorun cmd file for details]

It's a few days busy at work etc...

I have read a few posts regarding the two files that were causing errors:

1. ASFSIPC.DLL
2. DXMRTP.DLL

The posts suggested just commenting them out in the inf files and it should be fine, that is what I did.

This allowed me to finish building the ISO successfully.

I then used VMWare to load the ISO and after the successful loading of the desktop I am presented with the following error when GBPVR tray and when
GBPVR.exe tries to start

X:\i386\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\mscorwks.dll could not be loaded

I have checked that the file is there and if I try to manually register the DLL I get application failed as the application configuration is incorrect try to reinstall the application (or words to that effect)

Have you seen this before?

Any ideas?

yea, need those files...they're referenced from the infs from your own windows itself..so pretty much do need to be there...i'm pretty sure the DXMRTP.DLL is Directx Media Remote Transfer Protocol...whcih i'm pretty sure you'll need for gbpvr client operation, not to mention windows itself..and looks like .net needs it..that file should have been included in your windows for sure..
ahh,it's a .net2 file! [c:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.Windows.Networking.Dxmrtp_6595b64144ccf1df_5.2.2.3_x-ww_468466a7\dxmrtp.dll ] so it should have been included in your .net2 install...
that's why .net isn't working..asfsipc may not be needed as much.but fix this one for sure and see what happens.

ASFSIPC.DLL is part of DRM so i'm thinking it's also a must have for directx..
i can send you a copy, just so we can get past it...looks like i had to copy one in there for this file as well, [it's not a ASFSIPC.DL_]
really it just looks like WMP10 didn't slipstream correctly..
[that adds wmp10 to your xp install]

search your hard drive for these files, and copy into the xp installer dir and things should be ok...
