Just to make sure things were clean I did a clean install (this is my development PC not my PVR PC).

sub: brilliant work on 0.9. I'm glad to be able to get the software recorder working :-)

PreviewLiveTV works brilliantly, sometimes when you swap to RealLiveTV using the pause option it crashes though. Also sometimes this happens when swapping between channels in RealLiveTV mode.

basically error is: (but i have also sent you 'full' logs)

I was having some problems that I could not replicate consistently when I installed over the last version so started from scratch. I refreshed the computer to a pre GP-PVR and pre MediaMVP image.

I then did a clean install of the new version and have everything working (not always smoothly) with the exception of changing channels during Live TV mode. The same problem happens through the MVP or on the computer (on the computer I have to turn OFF Live Preview mode to replicate).

When I channel surf through the program, the background recording stumbles. When the channel is changed it creates a new file for the new channel with the new channel name but at about 20,000K it stops. It then creates a new file with the old channel name and stops every 20,000K (it continues to do this over and over until you exit Live TV mode and start over. When you open these new files with the old channel name they are split recordings of the new channel but just with the wrong name.

This can be replicated on the computer or TV through MVP by going to Live TV mode and then hitting the channel change button several times (sometimes if you just move one channel and stop it works OK).

Love the new features particularly the live TV guide and fully transparent OSD.

Sub,

Great update and perfect timing on the release. I just picked up a second PVR150 and a MVP at CircuitCity for $69.99 each!!

I installed it over the old version and everything came up fine. I then installed the second card and configured it and all is good. Next it was time for the MVP. I didn't install any Hauppauge software and configured GBPVR to start one MVP and it worked great.

Some of the things I have noticed:

As stated from an earlier thread:
"When I channel surf through the program, the background recording stumbles. When the channel is changed it creates a new file for the new channel with the new channel name but at about 20,000K it stops. It then creates a new file with the old channel name and stops every 20,000K (it continues to do this over and over until you exit Live TV mode and start over. When you open these new files with the old channel name they are split recordings of the new channel but just with the wrong name." I am seeing this also.

The special buttons on the new 45 button remote are working great with GBPVR on the computer, but I am unable to get them to work through the MVP?

Sometimes I loose audio when watching LiveTV through the MVP. If I change channels sometimes it comes back.

If you close GBPVR while in LiveTVPreview mode the status in the toolbar will stay green. If you exit out of LiveTVPreview mode before closing GBPVR it works as it should and turns red.

All in all this is a great release and considering that you had to rush it out to fix the Zap2It problem I can only imagine it getting better.

Thanks for all the hard work,

It should work, but you need to allow GB-PVR to boot the MVP from power up (or the very latest Hauppauge software). If you booted it up under the control of older Hauppauge software, then its unlikely to support the new 45 button remote.

I'll look into the other issues you've raised.

Sub,

Thanks for the reply!

It does look lovely! It's solved my one hatred of the X-Card which I've struggled against since the start! I even generated all the screens in Paint Shop Pro with the best pallete for 256 colours, but that didn't work because it wasn't enabled in GB-PVR. Would it be possible to do that now? Rather than generate them on the fly? Mind you, my HTPC is very quick, but my graphics card is probably what is letting it down. It's a 2.04Ghz AMD with 512MB DDR RAM! I assume then it generates a best colour pallete for each and every possible screen, i.e. even when just moving up and down a menu? Would it be possible to generate all these before-hand and have them loaded in memory, or even just call them from the hard drive? Or keep the pallete in memory once it's been loaded? So it's only slow the first time?
I must note that when I load GB-PVR for the first time with it enabled, moving down or up or pressing enter or whatever is instant, no matter what (on the first ever move). Then it's slow. Then it's quick. It's on and off, which led me to think that my computer can cope with the processing just that something might be going wrong somehow?

[b Wrote:Quote[/b] (PeterM @ Feb. 01 2005,17:25)]I have solved the problem described earlier in this thread (gbpvr.exe never coming up - using all system memory and cpu).

I was already using the standard Blue skin, so that was not the problem as suggested by some.

I also disabled all non-standard plugins - to no avail.

Looking at the log, I saw that it caused problems in the My Pictures plugin. I removed all the non standard plugin dll's in the plugin folder - and now 0.90 works fine...
Looks like I am having the same problem... GBPVR never comes up, just keeps churning away on the harddrive, using most of the CPU and varying amounts of system memory (until after a while, the PC gives up and reboots itself). I am using the standard skin, and have turned off all plugins. I also noted that MyPictures plugin seemed to be giving errors, so will try removing this plugin tonight to see if this also works for me.

Hasso

Sub,
Up to version 0.9. Are you getting ready for the big 1.0?

Nothing has really changed when best colours is disabled. You can generate 256 colour skins, but they must an even colour distribution. The 256 colours need to be made up of all 256 combinations of three bits red, two bits green, three bits blue. If you saw this spectrum, it would be a fairly even distribution of the possible colours. ie, you cant have 190 shades of blue + a few others. This makes it very fast to convert to each pixel of colour to one of the 256 possible colours.

'Best colours' requires a quite complex two-stage quanitization process where every pixel is analyzed and compared to the other colours, to come up with the best possible 256 colors to match the picture. These best 256 colours are not known until every pixel has been analysed. Then a second pass is run, where each pixel is compared to the 256 colours, which were identified in previous step, to find which is the closest match.

This is a standard process, and I use the CQuantizer implementation which is quite highly regarded. Its relatively fast, but not really intended for this purpose of real time conversions of screens on every keystroke. Its typically used in graphics programs when you want to do things like save a picture as 256 colours. In this type of application, you dont mind or notice a one-off 1.5 second delay.

Trust me, it needs a really fast machine. For comparison, I would say that my Athlon 64 3000+ is marginal. Not really fast enough, but close.

hasso: I found that the My Pictures error I had was that the associated skin directory was almost empty, the skin.xml file was gone - worth checking out. After I resetup this directory the plugin worked fine. Does the installation empty some skin directories?
