This is still very experimental, but you could see if the attached patch helps or makes things worse.

Attached is an entirely new TS Reader that I was working towards for the next release. The old TS reader code was in need of major tidy up. This new code also changes the way some of the skipping works. It has not been well tested, but I'll be interested to get feedback.

You'll need to extract all the attached files to your NPVR executables directory, and register the new NPVRTSReader2.ax filter. If you've done it right, you'll see a "Using 'NPVR TS Reader2'" log message in npvr.log when playing .ts files or live tv.

If you later want to get back to using the old NPVRTSReader, just deregister NPVRTSReader2.ax and it'll go back to looking for the old one. You wont need to restore the old files.

I have not tested to see if I still have an issue skipping but the patch causes issues with livetv. The video and audio stutter and tile until I pause or skip back. It is bad enough that parts of the screen are green at times. I tried with both livetv from an mpeg2 source and h264.

Ok. I'll check out whether other people report the same problem.

It doesn't do that here though.

I have been playing a bit with comskip lately, and was finding that NextPVR skipped early and cut the last teeny bit of audio but and then skipped correctly. With this version it does wait past the transition, but it does play a bit of the audio at the end of commercial, before the transition. It's an improvement and I hope it helps others, and I find it especially interesting the both ends of the skip are different.

I'm sorry to report no improvement in playing NPVR .ts recordings. But, it doesn't make things worse. One of 6 long skips are OK, 2 of 3 short skips, which is about what it was with the original TSreader. Log attached. Skips reported as 500 msec or so are bad, skips reported at 30-40 msec are good. No tuner on this box, so could not test Live TV.

The file you're playing in that log is a .mpg file, not .ts, so NextPVR takes no part in the skipping. In the case of .mpg files, it's all taken care of by directshow and whatever decoders and spliters it chooses to use on your machine.

Yes, my HDPVR h264/ac3 livetv is really bad with stuttering and it crashed twice so far so I am going to have to back out. I did notice that the ProcessBuffer size is much smaller in the automap file if that means anything.

I didn't see anything wrong with OTA ATSC.

Ah, sorry - there was a .ts file earlier in the log. I'll take another look.

What sizes were you seeing reported for both versions?

There are two files played at the beginning of the log, "Day Planner" and "Modern Family" that are ts and, according to the log, used the TSreader2. I tried a mpg file at the end to see if there was any effect there, with the understanding that the TSreader would not likely be used for an mpg file. Sorry for adding confusion, I should have snipped that part of the log.
