Hi everyone,

I've been in the process of building my own dedicated HTPC and finally have things to the point where I can't seem to find an answer to my question through this (and other) forums. Using GBPVR to record shows works fine (so far so good), but when I play a show through GBPVR when I try to Fast Forward (Not Skip - that seems to work fine) I lose sound. It rights itself if I re-start the show, but then I lose sound again when I try to Fast Forward. I am using a PVR-150 with the latest drivers from the SHS site (which I needed to load because older drivers were either giving me no video, no sound or both!). I have Windows XP Pro with all the latest updates. Any ideas as to where to start troubleshooting or is this a known issue? Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers!

Some people seem to get this. I'm not sure why. Most people just use skip instead of ff.

Hi Sub,

Thanks for the quick reply and the great software. Would you say this is a PVR-150 issue, a GBPVR issue, some combination of both, or something else entirely?

Just interested so I know when to salivate when I see an update for either one! Smile

Its more of a Microsoft directshow issue. Unfortunately, I dont expect it to change any time in the future.

HI - I was just going to post for the same issue when I saw this. I have the same problem
(just installed gbpvr a couple of days ago).

I'll have to go back and check, but I am not sure that skip does exactly the same thing as ff on my 150mce.

For your info - it doesn't do this in Windows MCE. There you can press ff 1-3 times to get different rates of ff. This is absolutely essential is it not?

Also - while I am on the subject, when I press pause, I get this irritating message about moving to time shift mode and then a few seconds of blank screen before anything more happens.

Is this normal and is it necessary - again it doesn't happen in Win mce? Is there a way to have it always in time shift mode?

GB-PVR doesnt do multi-speed ff/rw. Its a limitation of some of the third party components I have to rely on. Instead of FF/RW, most people just use the skip functionality. Pressing the skip key will jump sixty seconds. You can also configure it to do a short 10 second skip each time you press the ff or rw button.

If you want, you can disable 'live preview' mode, then you wont get this, but being always in timeshift mode will mean slower channel changes due to disk buffering etc...so it basically comes down to whether you're a channel surfer (like me), or prefer the convenience of being able pause live tv at any time

Thanks for clearing that up. Clearly ff is much better than skip but I understand your point. If I have paused for 10 minutes or so while taking a phone call, and I just want to ff/skip up to the current point - I have to go in sixty second jumps until I get there?

Thanks for the heads up on live preview mode. I'll check that out. Since my 150mce won't change the channels anyway, I guess it won't make much differenceBig Grin .

I thought just choosing the mce150mce in Config would be enough, but it won't change anything on my sky stb. (it will change channels internally - e.g within the epg but not to my stb). I've got the usb thingy setup and an ir thingy stuck over my stb's eye. (It worked fine under mythtv but that was about the only thing that worked:o )

I have only been at this for a couple of days but was planning to try to google etc to find out more about the remote.

Soi many things to play with - it's fun ....

If you want to jump 10 minutes, you can press 10-skip... or press ctrl-O to 'catch up'.

I have no idea which usb thingy you're talking about, so I cant really give you much more to go on.

If you have an MCE IR Blaster, then it sounds like you havnt setup HIP correctly.

If I activate the "Use Short Skip instead of Fast Forward" option in the Config, will that then disable anyone from accidentally Fast Forwarding and losing sound? The WAF will definitely increase if that is the case after I break the news to her that FF won't be working anytime soon. Smile

I have one of the Logitech Harmony Remotes, I got around this by just programming my FF/RW buttons to use the Skip FF/RW functions. I suppose you could do the same with the stock remotes and editing the key assignments in the config file. I've never tried this.
