Hello,

Can anyone tell me if there is support within GBPVR for USB hardware encoders such as the Dlink DUB-AV300? (http://www.ascent.co.nz/ProductSpecifica...mID=338321)

This thing captures into Divx format using a hardware encoder as well as mpeg1/2

Would implememtation of this be difficult using the current GBPVR system?

Thanks

Sorry no, that device is not supported by GB-PVR.

The most commonly used here USB capture device is the Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2. Apparently there is some Diamond "something 600" clone which also works well.

GB-PVR does work with capture devices using the GO7007SB chipset, which are mainly USB devices, and capture to MPEG1/2/4/Divx, but so few people use these devices that I'm kind of dropping support for them. Its possible that device you mentioned uses this same chipset. They sounded great in theory but the picture wasnt that good on them, and the divx files they produced were 80% the size of the MPEG2 recordings it made.

OK - yeah, if you are only saving 80% space then it doesnt seem to matter.

With the quality settings within GBPVR - are they only applicable on certain capture cards?
Setting to medium does make too much of a difference to file size using my Winfast PVR2000. (although I found that I got a bad MPG file when I set the max bitrate to 9000 for High Quality)

I some scheduled recordings set to low quality and hopefully those files will be smaller.

Thanks for your help.

They were 80% of the original size, so only a 20% saving. I know that was what you meant though.

Yes, unfortunately there isnt any universal standard for how the bitrate is set. It works with they cards I own and test (Hauppauge cards, ATI 550 cards etc), but other cards like the PVR2000 may or may not work.

I suspect you may need to edit direct.ini and set the following for the bitrate changes to work:

[Leadtek WinFast PVR2000]
INIT_MODE=DEFAULT

Thanks. I hate it when my MPEG goes to 4.95 GB so I cant put it onto a DVD without cutting or compressing the audio.

Thanks for your prompt support.
