Customisable data directory

Not of earth shattering importance, but would it be possible to contemplate allowing configuring of the 'data' directory where the database and log files etc are kept. It's just that I like to keep fairly static stuff like programs on a separate drive and back it up less often compared to data which gets backed up more often (honestly).

Yes, a “log” folder would be nice!

I kind of did do this (for plugins, the gbpvr.db3 database, and a few other files), but due to difficulties it would cause for upgrades etc, I never bothered to make it available. It'd have made the environment more complex, and more stuff that could go wrong with in place upgrades etc.
The data directory is controlled by a registry setting. If that registry setting isnt present, then it assumes the data directory is the install directory. I use c:\users\public\gbpvr as my data directory. I may make it available in a future release. I havnt decided yet.

Now that I have an (almost) dedicated gbpvr server with a clean install of windows and a few essential apps. Windows on C: data on D: and Apps on E: Currently I do a daily incremental backup C: & E: Along with an occasional backup of D: with the recordings, once in a while. What I'd really like is a fixed, static Windows and Apps drive that I can restore from DVD in a short time to get a fast, clean installation. Anything with data on a separate drive for backups. Since I rebuilt the server with a fresh windows install, I've realised how quickly it gets bloated with test installs and uninstalls. I'd even contemplate something like DeepFreeze to bring it back to it's pritine condition when rebooting. The above relies on having any data files away from the Windows or Apps partitions. Possibly even on an external raided NAS box in the future. thanks Martin

Moving these files out of "C:/Program Files" would go a long way for me too. I use a "User" account on my computer instead of an "Administrator." Out of the box, GBPVR doesn't handle this scenario at all. I currently have to open up permissions on the .../devnz/gbpvr directory to make it work. Having the data and log files on a public directory would solve that problem.
