I recently installed GB-PVR on my Windows XP machine. I have a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 350 that I'm using as my tuner/encoder. My original plan was to use the 350's TV-out as well. It worked in that video (live TV or recorded programs) played fine through the 350, but I could only get GB-PVR's main menu, TV guide, and other menus to display on my computer monitor. I came here to look for help, and learned that the 350 is no longer officially supported.

No problem, I think, because my video card, Nvidia's e-GeForce 6500, has S-video output. I set it up to use my television as a second monitor. It was no problem getting GB-PVR to display menus on my television this way. However, it was still using the 350 (which was still connected to my television via a different input) for video output. No matter what I did, I could not figure out how to get the video output to go through the GeForce 6500. I unhooked the 350's TV-out completely, but it didn't help--now I'm unable to get video playback at all. Menus still work fine on my monitor and on my TV through the GeForce 6500.

I'm assuming that I have to adjust some of the settings on the configuration menu's playback tab. Under hardware decoder device, only three options are listed: the 350, a "Sigma X card," and "none--use software decoder." Is the GeForce 6500 supposed to appear in this menu? Or do I need to use software decoding? If I need to use software decoding, what do I need to do to set it up correctly?

I'm still a little new at this, and any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey,

Use the software decoder option if you are using your video card as TV out.

That'll send menus and video through the video card and into your TV. You'll probably have to play around with the decoders and video rendering options in the config to get a result you are happy with.

Not too much more to set up with the software decoder. Just pick a decoder in the Software MPEG-2 Playback and and audio decoder.

Set it to VMR9 to start with and see if you get get it working, using one of the video decoders installed on your machine. I use the GPL (free) MPEG2 decoder - I think you can get it from Sourceforge.net if you dont have any other decoders installed.

I think the Wiki has some more information on setting this up as well.

Thanks
