No. It should run all the time.

Why? What does it do if nothing is recording or scheduled to be recorded?

Quote:Why?Because its designed to work that way. It does lots of things in the background at various times. It performs automatic EPG updates, automatic file conversions (MPEG2 -> xvid etc) at low priority in background, acts as a webserver for requests that could come in at any time, acts as an MVP server for MVP clients that could connect at any time. It provides regular monitoring of the database to see if various utilities have requested new recordings. It performs automatic database compaction, and offline clean up of live tv files.

Ah, so it does more then just recording stuff. Gotcha, thanks.
What is the webserver for? What kind of requests?

For logging into GB-PVR remotely, viewing tv guide, scheduling recordings etc.

OPaul,
Being set to Automatic means the service is started when Windows starts. Some process has to be running and watching the clock in order to start a recording on time.
