V0.97.7 installed, when trying to select either VMR7 or VMR9 in the config after closing then loading it comes up with an error saying "Thsi system doesn’t appear to support VRMx, try a different renderer", where "x" is 7 or 9 as selected.

Now i have tested my system with the Microsoft DCT2 (there official application that can test stuff like Direct X and VRM this is way more powerful than the free DXDIAG program).

Mine passed all tests except the VRM9 FULL screen stuff so VRM7 is confirmed working, so why is it GBPVR seems to think its NOT working???

DCT is a free download but took a goo hour to run ALL the tests and was interactive as well.
Many Thanks
Ashley

What kind of graphics card do you have?
Which mpeg decoder are you using?

I do Microsoft's recommended test to check if VMR is available, and its worked reliably (unchanged) since it was implemented about two years ago, so I'm pretty sure its correctly saying that it couldnt use VMR on your system. This may be a hardware limitation, version of the video card drivers, possibly the version of the operating system, or configuration.

What version of the operating system are you on? VMR7 is XP only. VMR9 requires DirectX9.

How many bit colour is your display adapter configured for? Some video cards cant use VMR at certain bit depths.

I don't think Matrox cards support true VMR7 or VMR9 (or at the least the cards I've come across haven't - unless they've recently updated their drivers). They might do a psuedo-VMR7 in some programs by using the Overlay filter with VMR, but that's not any better than just selecting Overlay in the first place.

Odd as its microsoft test software i used that seem to say VMR was ok, VMR9 failed on both the full screen modes, window was fine though.

Asking Matrox now about that.

Windows 2000
Fully installed DirectX9 (and passes every test in DXDIAG program)
tried on 16, 24 and 32bit colours.
Many Thanks

There you go then. The Matrox card doesn't support VMR9. Windows 2000 doesn't support VMR7. Ergo, no VMR.

As an update here, Matrox say the G400 isn’t DX9 compliant, how ever it IS DX8, this means VMR7 will work (as this needs DX7 or higher).

Heres where it gets fun. Another 2000 machine with the same Matrox card (G400 DH with 32Mb RAM) and this install of GBPVR DOES work on VMR7.

So where do you get this "XP only" thing? again this box passes the same tests with the Microsoft DCT.

The version of GBPVR on that machine is v0.96.12.

Its either a change in GBPVR versions or a build difference, unsure about a build difference but i know the GBPVR versions are different.
Many Thanks

Actually i think i found it, XP has VMR7 as standard, but on WIndows 2000 VMR7 is installed when you load Direct X9.0b or higher (Microsoft are now on 9.0c).
Many Thanks

Quote:So where do you get this "XP only" thing?
From the microsoft documentation, and from other stuff I've read on the net. http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/defaul...ilter.asp:

Quote:In Microsoft® Windows® XP, the Video Mixing Renderer 7 (VMR-7) is the default video renderer. It is called the VMR-7 because internally it uses DirectDraw 7. In DirectX 9, a similar but separate filter, the VMR-9, is available for redistribution on non-XP systems. The VMR-9 uses Direct3D 9.

Note The VMR-7 is available only on Windows XP. It is not available through the DirectX redistributable, or on previous versions of Windows. For most scenarios, application developers are encouraged to use the Video Mixing Renderer 9.
