Hello all,

Last week, after running the latest version of GBPVR for nearly 10 days with no problems, my computer cratered on me with numerous STOP error messages. After a few reboots, I'm finally able to launch into Windows XP successfully but when I try to launch GBPVR, I receive the following error message:

"the system does not appear to support vmr9. please try a different renderer"

The strangest thing is that it still records programs that I set before the issue but were scheduled since.

I searched the forums but was unable to locate any thread that relates to my issue. This is the second time I've encountered this issue and I removed one stick of RAM from the machine and re-imaged it.

Any thoughts?

If you often send the computer in suspend mode you may experience a data loss that could cause this kind of problem. I've had a similar problem before. Now I've solved by rebooting the system at every 24 hours (automatically every day at 7AM).
I know MSFT on other OS than XP does a safe reboot every 72 hours hence...

Hope it helps

No idea about the stop errors - anything in the event log?

if you get the (vmr9) error whenever you do a clean boot, try reinstaling directx9 and/or your video drivers.

if you get this when coming out of hibernate/standby then I would also like to find a solution as I periodically get this as well. It is like the graphics card is not being initialised correctly.

Download and reinstall the latest drivers for your video card. If your drivers somehow got pooched GB-PVR may no longer know that your card is capable of VMR9.

After installing new drivers for my ATI card, I got the same "VMR 9 not supported" error message on starting GBPVR. I searched around and found a useful post. I followed the advice of dropping down all the 3D settings in the ATI config panel. After doing so, it worked beautifully. My guess is the card needs the horsepower freed up by not having to do all the fancy 3D stuff. Worked for me and maybe it might for you as well.

Yesterday a reinstall of some programs got me the same fault.
After a reinstall of the video drivers all went back Smile .
Suggestion: if you own an ATI video card try to install ATI Omega drivers http://www.omegadrivers.net/ Wink

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions.

I never have my PC go into Standby or Hibernate mode, so I can't see that being the issue.

I re-installed Directx 9 and installed the Omega drivers for my ATI Radeon 7000 video card and after a reboot, GBPVR worked again. Sadly, overnight I received another different error message in Windows XP referencing 0x0000007b (or "c"...I couldn't quite see the last character). After a reboot, I'm getting the VMR9 error message again.

Any other suggestions before I try my PVR card in another computer altogether or get a new video card?

Thanks!

I know this is an OLD thread, but I have a GBPVR client that's been chugging along for a couple years now and it froze up tonight and was giving me the VMR9 error. I checked the hardware acceleration and stuff and reloaded the video driver but no joy. Finally I opened the Nvideo config utility and found the color pallette was at low color instead of high, I changed it and presto! It was back up and running!

Hopefully this'll help someone else who's got a system that just works and they are reluctant to want to mess with loading the new software up!
