Does anyone know why I can't watch one of my recorded programs through the web interface? I've the default 7647 TCP port opened on my firewall. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've never tried that, but a bell rings... don't you have to have VLC installed?

Uhh, I dunno. I couldn't find a post on this (though, I'm sure it's there...somewhere >.>). But, what's VLC? I've heard it mentioned but I don't know what it is. And, uhh, why would you need something other than the web interface itself to play? I mean, I click the recording file and my media player opens but it just sits there at "Connecting..." Is it just supposed to take a long time?

Are you doing this on a lan or internet??

If on the internet, I doubt your internet connection is fast enough to push out a 6000 kbps video file (unless you're on about a 54 mbps internet connection upstream Big Grin - if so, we're all coming to your house!!)

I thought there were "issues" with media player on the lan running these video files, and most people tended to use VLC ( http://www.videolan.org/ ) since it seems to handle it better. But this is for LAN use. You will need to look at the webstreamer or ubustream (I think) for internet streaming.

If you would like to view your recordings from outside your LAN, a web streamer is in development, and will be integrated into the Enhanced Web Admin shortly. I believe that there is a beta of this utility as a stand-alone web interface. You can read about it in this thread. And you can read about the Enhanced Web Admin (EWA) in this thread.

The web streamer does need VLC (VideoLAN Client) installed on the 'server' computer.

If you are trying to view videos within your lan and have high enough bandwidth to do so, I suggest rechecking your firewall settings.

psycik is correct. You need to have the VLC player installed on your client in order to play videos via the web interface. I think that this is because it will play the http stream as it is sent, whereas WMP (for example) will wait until the entire file has been downloaded locally.
