Freecom DVB-T TV USB Stick

I'm in the same boat too. My Freecom DVB-T stick has a label on it dated February 2006. I spent 4 days trying all the usual advice about BDA drivers from other makers. All I ended up with was a laptop that continually "blue screened" and a desktop machine which couldn't or wouldn't use any of these other drivers. After much time spent searching the net I eventually came across the above post from JeremyPorteous. I'd like to thank JeremyPorteous for the information regarding a change of hardware/updated model, at least it put me out of my misery. I also hope that Freecom will make good on their promise to supply new drivers soon. I've registered on their forum and asked to be kept up to date with new developments.

i think this has the same chipset (ZL10353) for the new device, but cannot find the drivers!

What I've found so far...

The Freecom unit wakes up as a 'load my firmware' device - which needs a loader driver - and after the firmware's loaded, it disconnects and reappears as a new device - a 'digital tv receiver' - with a new device id, which needs a separate capture driver.

The chip in newer units is pin-for-pin compatible with the one in older units, but needs some small software tweaks, which are handled by a new version of firmware.

I figured it might be possible to use the newer (wdm) firmware loader, but the older bda driver. So starting with a working raw Freecom setup, I downloaded aand unpacked BDA_driver.zip (mentioned earlier in this thread), changed the USB device ID in BDA_Capture_220.inf:

opened 'digital tv receiver' in device manager, selected 'update driver' and pointed it at the edited .inf file, which loaded happily and pulled in lots of Windows bdm stuff.

Now when I open gbpbr config, I can select a BDA Recording Plugin device, and if I check the tickbox to list only the devices on this machine, I see 'Freecom DVB'. And when I select 'map digital channels to EPG channels' (all regions) it scans through, showing some to be e.g. 'strength 65000, quality 26' (at which point the LED on the unit changes from orange to green) - but - no channels are detected.

So near yet so far. Any good ideas what to try next?

I have just tried to set this all up, having a Feb 2006 stick. Using the WDM loader with the BDA driver I can get the drivers to load but experience exactly the same thing when setting up GBPVR.

I'm going to see if I can get anything else working under this BDA driver..

I've got the freecom DVB-T USB2.0 February 2006 edition working with gbpvr now.
Used the drivers on:

which are BDA.

and added the following to the bda.ini file in the gb pvr folder:

I've got the February 2006 product too, and everytime I try to use 3rd party drivers it asks for 2 files in particular. WDM_Capture_220.inf and Westlake.dll. What do you do about these 2 files?

I'm gonna give the VGear Drivers a try, but not getting my hopes up!

I have a new Freecom USB DVB-T stick and installed the V-Gear BDA drivers on a clean system. After that I installed CyberLink PowerCinema and it works great. Picture smooth where a Terratec 1400 PCI DVB-T card was like stuck on weak signals.

Hi All,

I got the VGear drivers to work with my February2006 Freecom DVB stick and I have got GBPVR to recognise it. But, when I try and scan channels to map them to the EPG, GB PVR finds no channels. The scan does show it picks up some low quality/strength signals but nothing significant. I live with line of sight to the Crystal Palace transmitter in London and I have had no problem picking up the signals on my Freecom stick with the Freecom supplied software. Any ideas anyone?

Try running ReRegisterFilters.bat - it might help.

I had a go at re-registering the filters but it doesn't seem to change anything. Thanks for the suggestion though. Looks like I'm going to have to wait like everyone else for some BDA drivers from Freecom. Thanks.
