With the newest release, and the blue skin, it'll display the aspect ratio name in the top left when you press F7.

Thanks Sub,

I'll bet its because I am using a diffrent skin that I do not see the name of the aspect ratio.

Anyway, I did some checking last night and found that Mpeg files recorded from my PVR150 had black bars on either side (Left/Right) when played back on my WS TV in auto, though the direct stream from the PVR150 was displayed correctly (I deleted all aspect definitions from config.xml but the auto one to check this).

I then added back in just the 'Fill' aspect ratio, and this corrected the display of the Mpeg reording.

If you're watch 4:3 content on a widescreen 16:9 screen, with "auto" aspect ratio, then it will normally add black bars to the left and right. It needs to do this to retain the correct aspect ratio.

Sub,

I am a bit confused - my settop box outputs a widescreen signal to the PVR150 which displays this as widescreen in liveTV, it is only when playing back the recorded image that this occurs

All MPEG content coming out of the PVR150 are marked as 4:3. This is something either hardcoded in the driver or the hardware encoder. Even 16:9 content is marked as 4:3.

Digital cards (Nova-T etc) produce MPEG files that contain the real aspect ratio.

Thanks Sub, didnt know that - it explains a few of the odd sizes I see now and again. Have now setup my installation with just the 'auto' and 'fill' modes linked to my remote (F7) - and this works fine.
