B*gg*r. Thanks for looking anyway.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to pin it down, by hook or by crook.

k.

What does the performance tab of taskmanager show ? If your getting cpu usage spikes coinciding with the frame drops take a look at the processes tab and determine what is causing them.

Well, I used process explorer and it shows quite regular spikes, even not running GBPVR to watch TV.

Attached a screen shot of that on the PC, (done while using VNC, so ignore the VNC and Repeater entries). The biggest culprit is actually GBPVR which spikes at very regular intervals to around 20%. Services, Interrupts and DPC's all only contribute a very small amount.

I wonder if the MVP downstairs (which is switched ON, as it is all the time) but not recording or watching anything and in the main screen, is regularly "making contact" with the PC upstairs and causing this? Must try that when I get home tonight.

Yes, quite possibly. Generating MVP screens is quite CPU intensive, and remember when you're sitting at the main menu, the 'recording now/soon' screen gets updated every 5 or so seconds. Your machine may not be grunty enough to do this without interferring with playback in another session.

Old thread, same theme, with me in it :o
How quickly we forget!

I think you said you'd done all you could code-wise, I wonder if it would be possible to add the possiblity/option to temporarily suspend the MVP server while viewing on the PC or Video Out....

To be honest, probably not. There is no communication between these separate instances of GBPVR.exe.

You may want make sure you have the following in config.xml to minimize the impact of the MVP.

<MvpHighPriority>false</MvpHighPriority>
<ForceHighPriorityClient>false</ForceHighPriorityClient>

OK, I can change those OK, but actually I had the first set to to TRUE, as I wanted my PC not to interrupt my MVP stream ... i.e. the OTHER way around (hence the query about whether possible to swap.... on the fly) I had the second on false.

I reckon you've found the source of frame drops ! Purevideo with VMR9 is particulary sensitive to this.
