How much do you watch on your MVP vs the PC?

Was thinking that if the PC was not used that much, then you could have a batch file which stops the GBPVR services, replace the text in the config (to make MVP high priority = false) files and then re-starts the services.
Not sure how this would work - as I havent used an MVP, would restarting the service on the PC make the MVP load back up correcly? (or would it just hang?)
The batch could then switch the priority back after you have finished watching via the PC

I know there are some freeware text search / replace apps which would do the job - as the title says, it's ugly.

Obviously this wouldnt work if you use both devices at once. You could integrate this and have the batches hidden from view at runtime.

Sub: Could this work at all?

Thanks

LOL what are you, the ugly programmer :-)

MVP 80% I'd say. Only watch PC sometimes when working on it before bed...

Sequence would be something like Hit GBPVR_PC.bat, batch stops recording service, opens config.xml, modifies those two lines, restarts recording service, starts GBPVR, then on GBPVR exit, batch stops recording service, opens config.xml, modifies those two lines back to MVP priority, restarts recording service.

I'm pretty sure it would work. But man it's ugly Big Grin and it would take an age ...

That's weird... I could have sworn I saw a message from sub which said
Quote:Just press the standby button when you're not using the MVP.
What a brilliant idea! Although I think some of us are afraid to turn off our MVP's in case they never ever reconnect ever again Big Grin

I can't program so use batches for whatever I can.

Used to with the massive IT beauracrecy we have at work - 20 page specs for 4 lines of code change! I use workarounds until my enhancements get proritised higher.

Anyway, I wanted to see how long this takes - and it's about 4 seconds at the start (most of this is the recording service starting and stopping - the actual search & replace takes about 0.1 seconds.

So if anyone knows how to stop batch files showing up at all, then I would be very interested as I have a few batches that run which I dont want to know about. Sorry to hijack your thread!

Try

start /d "C:\Program Files\PATHNAME" yourprogram.exe anyswitches
works for me...

Yeehah!!! I can confirm that turning OFF the downstairs MVP with the Power Button certainly has the desired effect when watching on the PC upstairs. No more spikes and the frame drops stopped occuring.Yeehah!!

p.s. this will not work if your PC is downstairs and the MVP is upstairs ...

Hi,
Why is step 2,3 and 4 neccessary when running GBPVR. I thought this stuff was taken care of by the decoder. Are there some components installed with wmp10 that is used by GBPVR or?

That has absolutely NOTHING to do with anything like dumb. Because you're asking, i think that you dind't done the following steps:

1. Install ForceWare like the 81.98 WHQL
2. Upgrade to Windows Media Player 10
3. Update for Windows Media Digital Rights Management-enabled players
4. Update to enable DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) of Windows Media Video content in Windows Media Player 10
5. Install NVIDIA PureVideo Decoder 1.02.185

No, you are wrong. GB-PVR is only using the Core-Components of WMP and the Directshowfilters.
With other words: GB-PVR can play the same Vids in same Quality and CPU Usage, like the WMP itself.

There are different Formats, which can be hardwareaccelerated:
MPEG, MPEG-2, WMV9, HD-WMV... MP4 (some sorts of, i think there exists 3 different MP4 Formats). And of course is the Decoder, you choosed within Config.exe, responsible for Decoding Audio/Video.
But most of them require's the DxVA Update itself too. Even the PureVideo needs the MS DxVA Update to fully work.

Alternatively, just disable the Next Recording widget in your skin. This is what causes the periodic spikes since it updates every 5 seconds.

I just copied the Blue skin to a directory called Blue MVP, disabled the Next Recording and Clock widget (so the clock wouldn't require an update every minute) in the main screen's .html file , and then in Setup told gbpvr to use the revised skin on my MVPs. Problem solved, the same info is still available on other screens on the MVPs, and I don't have to go shutdown the 3 MVPs I have around the house.
