New project templates in VS .NET 2005 Express

The 'New Project' templates available in VS.NET 2005 Express (C#) are a bit thin on the ground. I'm specifically missing the Windows Service template. Looking at the MSDN docs, it specifically states that this template isn't available in Standard Edition (and obviosly not the Express editions either). I've searched MSDN and can't find any template downloads.

Anyone know if this is available somewhere? I tried creating a barebones service in VS.NET 2003 and then converting it in VS 2005. It seemed to work without complaint but when I compiled and tried to install using InstallUtil, it didn't install. InstallUtil said that it had installed it but it didn't appear in the Services MMC snap-in.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers. My main service code was fine. It was the installer side of things that I'd got wrong. That's the other nice thing about having access to a full version of VS .NET 2003 - I just right-click to add an installer project and it does it all for me. Sheesh - I'm getting lazy in my old age.

Anyway, I took the basic installer class from the web-page you posted and it now installs fine.
