Alternatively, just disable the Next Recording widget in your skin. This is what causes the periodic spikes since it updates every 5 seconds.

Thanks wtg, yeah I know.... I noted in post 26 of this same thread http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=1...stcount=26 that I had a doh! moment, and remembered an earlier thread (with me in it) about that widget disabling thing.

I had even disabled it before, but must have re-enabled it at some later update. To be honest with 1 MVP, I'm more than happy just switching it off. Then there are absolutely no screens, widgets or otherwise, which get updated and interfere.
