I have recently noticed that if I watch either live TV or recordings on the MVP, then exit out of that and go upstairs to watch LiveTV on the PC that the playback slows to a crawl on the PC. If I then exit GBPVR, go into config and just restart it it works fine again, plays beautifully on the PC.

Is there a time lag where the database is doing something or a behavioural protocol trhat I should follow for this sequence of watching stuff? It seems to be repeatable, although I don't watch on the PC that much to be 100% sure.

Is your MVP still on after you go upstairs? There is a setting in the config file to give high priority to the MVP client.

Sub was saying it polls the PC every 5 secs or so when it's switched on - so the MVP may be hogging your processor.

Thank you both for your suggestions:

@JonnyCam

LOL, no I turn off the MVP SINCE that thread. (should have written that, sorry) . That's me in that thread, asking all the silly questions. The reason it plays so well upstairs now is (a) A h/w accelerated video card and (b) I turn off the MVP downstairs. (Mainly (b)). That's why I was surprised to see it go really slow (and I mean really slow) when I follow that sequence. It all goes back to normal when I restart the config.

@Tipstir.

1. Weak PIII? No I don't think it is that. It works fine if (a) I hadn't previously had the MVP on or (b) I restart the config. It's like that "resets" something and it goes fine on the PIII, just fine as I noted in the thread JonnyCam referred to. I couldn't be happier. http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=1...stcount=36
2. Defrag? I have scheduled defrags on all my drives. I really don't think it's that.
3. "network tweaks installed for a wired MVP". I am not sure why you think this would help the slow playback on the PC? In any case, I have had these tweaks installed since august last year. Even asked you some Q's about it in your thread :-) http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=5...stcount=45
4. Look forward to the Wireless Tweaks.

Cheers again

k.

Sorry Jk,

Wasnt really looking at the name - Using a PC after 2 hours sleep and then going to work is not cool (WC final)

does the config app restarts the recording service?
What happens if you do that manually?

No worries, the AB's won ... :-)

Quote:does the config app restart the recording service?
Yup, it does. For some reason I have had better success restarting the recording service with the config than with the restart recording service option (it seems to start the MVP Tray icon better).

Ermmm ... do what manually? Restart the recording service? I don't know TBH, but I guess I'm hoping my system has a (fixable) glitch where you don't NEED to restart the recording service every time you want to swap it over.

It sort of feels like it uses a different set of decoders, or something. Maybe I need to look at the lastgraph that gets produced after MVP, then after the slow PC viewing, when I get home tonight.

At the moment there's a fix (restart the recording service) one way or another, but it's a bit of a PITA, because I have to train the wife, and I get the hard word about " why do I have to do this, why can't I just start it" ... well dear, it's like this...

Well, this is definitely repeatable and results in loss of audio as well (sorry, forgot to mention that earlier). Sad

I used the MVP last night, turned it off overnight. Tried GBPVR LiveTV on PC this a.m., very very slow, no audio.

I checked the lastgraph of both the MVP session and the PC session. They are identical. The logs appear to have no errors. Restarting the recording service fixes it, every time.

How shall I start to troubleshoot this? Logs from last action (Slow PC Session attached), plus some graphs.

My PC doesn;t hibernate, the only thing that comes on is screensaver. Screen switches off after 20 mins (off overnight).

You might look at a snip (below) from my gbpvr.exe-native.log and you will find yours has the bit between the first and last lines missing (not a good sign!). All the Puts etc are not there which would explain why you have no audio. It looks like it can't find a preferred audio decoder?

Probably doesn't help much but it is another bit of info.

Hmm... I really don't know enough about what I'm looking at to say, but the logs did seem to find an Audio (and Video) Filter. The only thing that failed was FindFilterByName Encoder passthough filter???

I wonder if choosing a defined renderer would help. Currently that's set as auto.

That can be safely ignored. Its normal for encoder passthrough.

OK, so .... um ... any hints on what to try next or how to test it?
it's like it wakes up with a massive hangover, blurred vision and can't speak.
