HOW TO: Purevideo Decoder Registry Patch

So can I take it from this that by the same token the patch "will work equally well with the combination of latest Forceware drivers+purevideo" recommended by yourself (regardless of whether my card is the AGP version of the 6200 or not)?

The patch will enable DXVA+VMR and set de-interlacing to VMR Default on all Purevideo decoder versions. This results in enabling hardware de-interlacing which will provide the best picture quality available on your system. This patch has nothing to do with with video card brand or drivers, and doesn't care.

Now on the subject of Forceware drivers (totally different subject to the Purevideo registry patch), many video enhancements have occured in recent Forceware drivers, therefore the latest Forceware drivers (in combination with the latest purevideo decoder) will provide the best available picture quality providing the Forceware driver doesn't clash with your hardware (which ShiningDragon suggests does happen with certain hardware combinations).

I'm not trying to be critical but instead trying to clarify the situation

Yes, Nvidia video cards are well known to have compatability issues with motherboard chipsets (particularily VIA chipset with AGP slot), and also the well known aspect ratio problems.

But it would be nice if they could at least get it right with their own Nvidia chipset mobos (I realise they have limited control over manufacturers' hardware, but still...)

With newer drivers VMR9 and Hardware Acceleration didn't work right

OK, I think I've got it. Thanks again csy. I guess I just really need to go away and do some tests to check CPU utilisation for my h/w combinations, playing the same video with each of the two combos, this would seem the only way to really check if I have the problem ShiningDragon highlighted in the earlier thread i.e. no VMR9+No Hardware acceleration.

With the present version I get continual vertical roll-over with mpg playback (even if it has been transcoded to DivX/XVid).

My res is 800x600x60hz with TV output to SDTV via composite cable off the MSI proprietary S-video>component/composite dongle.

My seup is only single display mode, do you still have this problem then ?

Why are you setting you TV output resolution to 800x600 60Hz when you live in pal land ? Nvidia cards allow you to set TV out to native pal resolution 720x576i 50hz in advanced timing.

It continually rolls over like the older TVs used to do which had vertical sync adjustment -ie. vertical sync; didn't want to say that as it might be confused with an analogy to audio sync.

No. It's fine in single mode. But I don't always use my projector so I don't want the hassle of continually switching display settings.

No. There is no visual adjustment when I used the 'R' key to switch AR.

My projector has a native res of 800x600. And I use 60hz to avoid activating the scaler of the projector.

I'm in exactly the same boat here as have a widescreen 720x576i 50Hz sdtv via s-video and a projector 1280x720 50Hz via dvi. Try using the nvidia hotkey function and setup a "switch to next display device" function. Map this to a key on your remote for convenience.

I've tried setting & saving profiles but the damned drivers refuse to reload the relevant info like FSV, so what's their point. Add to that, you can't set your secondary res to a higher one than the primary in clone mode. I've never worked out how to get dualview working. I have tried setting Projector to primary but then something else occurs; can't remember what at the moment.
Will try the "switch to next display device" & see if it works for me. Thanks for the tip.

Actually there isn't much tweaking occuring (only DXVA+VMR and VMR-Default de-interlacing), but I've included all the other dwords for completeness and overwrite old values in case someone has been experimenting.

People have been tricked into thinking they are actually using the settings shown on that page, but those settings don't reflect what the current configuration is. YOU HAVE TO CLICK OK TO ACTUALLY APPLY THE SHOWN SETTINGS.

Also the options presented in that settings page vary depending on the last configuration actually used by the decoder. Several people have reported they cannot see the VMR Default option.

The registry patch is a shortcut which saves you messing with the decoder settings page. In your case you can see the VMR settings so simply apply them and you don't need the patch.

If you are using Overlay, you will only see "Best Available", "Combine Fields" or "Display Fields Separately". In that case, choose Best Available.

If you are using VMR9, you will see the various deinterlacing modes (e.g. VMR Default, VMR Pixel Adaptive, VMR Vertical Stretch etc.). On ATI cards, you will see that there are several with the same name. They ARE different, but to check which one it is, you have to look at the property page for the VMR9 mixer rather than the PureVideo decoder. I have a list of GUIDs for each of the deinterlacing types somewhere (Vector Adaptive, Motion Adaptive, Adaptive, Bob).
