O.K. Here's an interim update on trying the new dongles. First, apparently I have an H2 revision MVP. It would not boot at all with the default dongle.bin. Likewise would not boot with 25_24023b.bin (just hangs on "loading application").

Then, sucess with 30_24088.bin!
Everything works great. One tiny problem is that the GBPVR screen on my television is slightly out of the frame, so that the description of each show's episode on the TV guide screen is below the frame of the Tele and can't be read. I have no idea if this has anything to do with a dongle file or not.

Since everything else is fine I have been too lazy to try other dongles or to install the MVP screen position plugin. When I have some free time, maybe.

Anyway, thanks to jksmurf, the dongle dealer.

bertros, excellent feedback, mkuyper WILL be pleased. Looks like the H2 doesn't like the same dongle as the H3. I am constantly updating post 44.

StevHodge, sent you a PM. As always please post your feeback.

many thanks jksmurf. The 24023b dongle you posted works (I think) with my 86020-H3-2106. I think I have network problems though because the playback is very stuttery, so I am working on this now. (Just to be sure it is the network I installed the Hauppauge software on another machine, and got the same behaviour - the dongle there is just called dongle.bin, but i suppose you must have renamed it after extraction) Steve

Thanks for the feedback, it is appreciated. Yes I renamed all the dongles to the driver rev. as downloaded. Otherwise there would be 10~15-odd dongles all called dongle.bin, and you'd have the devil of a time trying to work out which was which.

That's why I was chuffed to bits when I discovered gbpvr could push any dongle called dongle_XXXXX.bin to the MVP, and that they didn't have to be called dongle.bin. Makes setting up and experimenting a lot easier.

I would also like to try a copy of the 24023b dongle. I have just bought my first MVP - an H3 revision. I haven't got it to work acceptably yet with gb-pvr (v0.97.13).

Using the default dongle, skin and configuration the MVP reboots itself after loading the application.

Using the (not recommended) gbmvp.bin the application loads and runs but the menu is extremely slow most of the time, taking around 5s to react to a remote keypress. On the rare occasion that the menu reacts well I have been able to view photos ok but cannot play music (mp3) or videos (divx) since the MVP hangs and responds only to a power request from the remote.

How fast is your machine? Different dongles do affect the ability to start the MVP, but they will be negligable speed difference between them.

The speed is mostly dictated by the speed of your main machine and the network.

Note also that I have also had instances of the MVP (rev H3) failing even to boot past the Hauppauge splash screen, hanging after four of the five bars. This may be heat related since leaving the MVP powered down for 5 mins cured the problem each time.

I am running the server on a 3GHz laptop. Should be plenty fast enough. It is currently on a 54Mbps wireless which could affect it - I'll connect a LAN cable and try again. Note, that I have no trouble at all with the Hauppauge software (except for the rubbish interface of course!).
