Can a badly fragmented drive cause jerky video playback. I get this in live tv and when playing recordings.

Cheers Jase

Defragmented but made no difference, must be a driver issue.

Cheers Jase.

I had this problem on Sunday - defrag didn't fix the recording although it has fixed all subsequent ones. It must be that the hard drive wasn't able to keep up writing all over the disk so the resulting file had masses of dropped frames - It did allow me to watch the Grand Prix in under an hour thoughBig Grin

I have since set up a scheduled task to defrag my recording drive during the night using
Code:
defrag F: -f
(where F: is my recording drive)

what does the -f tag do?
Also does anyone know how to schedule defrag to run on other drives? Windows scheduler only seems to allow one instance of defag (i.e only c: or d:, not one followed by the other....).

The -f forces a defrag even if free space is below 15%.

And you can create a batch (or cmd-file) that executes defrag on each drive and then shedule that file instead of just one defrag.

Example:

Code:
defrag c: -f
defrag d: -f
defrag e: -f

Ah, all good then - thanks for the advice! It kinda seems obvious as soon as it's been pointed out:o

In my experiences, if defragging doesn't solve your jerky video problem, then try changing your decoder. Has it always been this way for you or did it just start happening out of the blue?
Chris
GBPVR system info intentionally left blank because I'm personally
insulted that you can't remember it from previous signatures.

I can not remember when i started getting this problem , i have not always had it, live tv and playing back recordings was always fine. I have tried loads of different decoders. I have tried changing my video card drivers (nvidia FX 5600) this has no effect. I might have to try going back to a previous release of gbpvr to see if that makes any difference.

The strange thing is that the problem is worse with my compro card than with my huppauge pvr150. But if i use my compro software to watch live tv it works fine.

Cheers Jase.
