Hey guys. I just got my Hauppauge 500 today and put it in my system. However, the card I bought was used and didn't include the cd with the drivers or anything.

I went to Hauppauge's website and went to the PVR-500 support site and downloaded drivers... but it doesn't seem to have any drivers for the 500, just the 150.

Also... when I go to GBPVR and go to config... what do I choose? I go to capture sources and click Add.

There is a "Recording Source" "EPG Source" and "Channel Changer"

For now, I won't be using a channel changer. However. I am curious about the other 2. When I click settings for Recording Source I'm given a list of cards... but when I click the box that says to only view tuners in my system... it tells me no cards are found.

Also, I'm clueless to the EPG. I'm assuming there's just some file I need to grab so I can get all the programming information and set up my channels and what not.

Sorry that these questions are so basic, but I'm just a newb without any documentation to go on. The fact I opened my PC case and got this blasted card into a PCI slot was an accomplishment for me!

If you havnt installed the drivers, its not going find any cards.

Which country are you in? The answer varies from country to country.

There is lots of documentation on the wiki http://www.gbpvr.com/pmwiki

Hi, steveklein.

I *just* built a GBPVR rig with a Hauppauge 500 myself, so I just might be of some assistance. If you can't find the drivers, I did get a CD, but I was able to find them online also right here.

thanks for the quick responses guys.

for what it's worth, i'm in america and i think i figured out Zap2it.

but the drivers for my pvr-500 is another issue. i went to that page and downloaded those 2 files, installed them in the order it told me to and everyting seemed to work fine... but the card still doesn't come up in the list in GBPVR when the box that says to only display recognized cards in my machine is checked.

yep.

and just incase anyone is wondering... when i go to the device manager on my PC, here is what I see:

http://www.auburn.edu/~kleinsa/devicemanager.jpg

naturally i wanted to know what the heck that was all about so i went to properties and see this message:

"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

The Windows troubleshooter is pretty useless... so what can I disable to get this thing working?

My PC should have enough horsepower to run this... it's a P4 2.66 GHz with 512MB DDR SDRAM (will upgrade this to 1 GB, but could this really be the problem? I would think performance would be poor before it just didn't let me use the card at all.)

try a different slot..that will re plug-n-play detect it..and hopefully find enough resources..if you have any hardware not being used, disable it in bios to free up resources..[interrupts,io,etc.] such as built in sound cards, network if you have these seperately...
also make sure you have acpi turned on in bios and windows, that way it can share interrupts with several cards and won't have the conflicts...
[which often means installing windows fresh unfortunately]

also if none of that works, try taking all cards out, add ppvr500 back first and get drivers working, then re-install remaining cards, and let them fight over what's left...Smile
[they can probably do better job moving themselves around individually]

i find a fresh install of windows a good thing when building a pvr box..Smile
[keeps conflicts down]
Hardware: HDHR Prime, HDPVR 1212, Raspberry pi2, VFD display w/LCDSmartie

thanks for the advice... even though it wasn't exactly what i wanted to hear. i tried shuffling the card around the pci slots to no avail. there's only one other device i have connected to a PCI slot and I have 4 PCI slots total so I'm kind of shocked that my computer wouldn't be able to handle this.

would adding more memory (ram) alleviate this problem... or is it something deeper than this?

i don't really want to do a clean install of windows... but it looks like i'll have to (but i'd like to put this off as long as possible...)

Adding more memory probably won't help. If I rememeber when I got my PVR150, I had to go in through device manager and set up an IRQ manually because I had a similar message. But after that it worked wonderfully.

EDIT - Actually that may have been something else now that I think about it.
